I have an Archos 504. A couple of months ago I used it to record a show off TV as I normally do. It started to act weird where the show that I recorded didn't show up and then I got an error message. Well, now my Archos won't turn on at all. I even bought a new battery and that didn't work.
What is the possible problem and solution? Thanks.

hold the tv button slightly earlier than holding the power button, first tv then power (while still pressing the tv button). it should first boot up to a normal green ARCHOS screen, then it will enter the recovery mode.
check the connections again and in settings menu of video recording change the 'input mode' to auto.. if you still cant see the tv output on archos let me know..
does the archos come from europe and you are in the US, my point is if it is off say ebay theit will be set up for 240v and therefore is shall we say starved of power.
The same thing happens to me. I've noticed that it is on the dvds and vhs recordings (ie, copy protected) that this happens. The other files (downloaded from internet, tv, etc) play fine. I think it has something to do with copy-protection that allows files to be saved to device, but not transmitted out. This allows you to save and view your commercial recordings on the Archos, but not let the program to be sent to a recording device such as a dvd recorder.
ARchos is macrovision compliant to prevent copying copyright programs. I think in some cases the recordings are encoded as such and will not play on your tv in those cases. I would fire off a letter to Archos technical support archos.com) and check with them on this.
I have put plenty of DVDs onto my Archos, but I use the optional cradle which connect to the TV as well as DVD players. You simply connect the DVD player onto it and play your dvd, which switching on the Recorder function on your unit.
Alternatively, can you convert the DVD onto your PC and then transfer onto the Archos in normal fashion, or is this what you are saying you tried to do already?
