This sounds like an alternator problem. have the battery and charging system tested. this test will tell you if the battery is good and also if the alternator is good.

Batteries must be completely dead before recharging or battery life is shortened.large battery is probably defective contact Ryobi to replace battery they while probably send you new batteries for free if you tell them you are going to stop buy their products.Tell them about both batteries they will probably replace both for no charge

How to maximize battery life of a laptop

In addition to all these excellent suggestions don't plug your computer in with the battery installed every time you need to use it. Most manufacturers don't recommend uninstalling the battery (unplugging it) while using it. The truth is, though, this repeated charge and discharge cycle from plugging in your laptop will significantly drain the life of your battery because it is only good for so many charge cycles. So if you're in a situation where you don't need to use the battery unplug it and just use AC power. Also don't always run the battery completely dead when using it. It is best for modern li-ion batteries to be charged to full when they still have 15-20% power still left in them. About every 10 discharge cycles it is best to run the battery completely dead as this will reset the battery meter in the computer so that it can read the available charge more accurately.

Power problems Inspirion 8600-battery not charging

Most Dell batteries have an LED indicator that allows users to see how much run time and how much overall battery life are available at the touch of a button.
To check battery charge, press the button and the number of lights that appear will tell you charge status. If all lights appear, you have a fully charged battery. Each light that appears accounts for approximately 20% charge.
To check the battery health, press and hold the status button on the battery charge gauge for at least 3 seconds. If no lights appear, the battery is in good condition and approximately more than 80 percent of its original charge capacity remains. Each light represents incremental degradation. If five lights appear, approximately less than 60 percent of the charge capacity remains, and you should consider replacing the battery
if the ac adapter will power the laptop without the battery installed its fine. if the cord is fine and your battery is fine its a mother board issue and it will most likely have to be replaced

Help

Hi, You problem is more than likely a faulty battery or even the charger, you'll need to get these tested to find out what is causing the problem. It is known that the batteries tend to stop charging and need replacing after so long. If you take it into any computer shop they will tell you what is causing the problem as they will have a battery to try, this will tell you if it is the battery or the charger that is at fault. They won't charge you for this as it will take a matter of seconds to test the battery.
Let me know if you need further assistance, remember to always let the battery go totally flat at least once a month and then do a full charge as this will prolong the life of your battery and keep your battery lasting for the maximum time. It is recommened to do this with any electrical equipment that works off a re-chargeable battery, or else it cause bad cells & stops it from being charged.
