I can't get my tomtom to turn on. It is plugged in and charging but still won't turn on.

Straight from the TomTom website:

To reset your TomTom device, do the following:

  1. Check that the battery is charged properly.
    Charge your device for at least 2 hours before trying to turn it on again. Make sure the charging light on your device is on.

  2. Remove the SD card
    If your device uses an SD card, remove it.

  3. Reset your device.
    Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for 15 seconds. See the pictures below for where to find the reset button.

  4. Turn your device on.
    Press the On/off button for at least 5 seconds.

  5. Insert the SD card
    If your device uses an SD card, insert the SD card.

My Tom Tom XXL won't turn on when plugged in.
The GPS device runs off the battery ... so, you need to charge the battery (fully, or enough to power the GPS) before you start using it again. For clarity, if the battery is not charged, the GPS will not run when plugged into a power source.

My Tomtom 300 Go won't charge?
It appears that the battery will not hold a (good) charge anymore. If it is still under warranty, contact TomTom to address that problem. They may replace the unit for you.
It is not unusual for (rechargeable) batteries to loose it's capability to hold a good charge if it is plugged in (to a power source) all the time, even while it is not in use.

If you have a tom tom from the GO models
they hace a reset button you can press with a pin were the mount fits.
When you plug in the charger the green light should come on to say it is chargeing.

According to Bill, from the TomTom technical services, your TomTom will charge when plugged either to your computer or to your car, as long at your gps unit is turned OFF.

Seeing as it charges from the computer
I doubt that it is the tomtom.

I would suspect either the outlet in your car or a posible problem with the lead even if it is new.

I can't start my tomtom
Are you plugging it in to your car, is the cig outlet in the car have a bad fuse, does the charge
plug for the unit have a fuse in it.Check these first to make sure power is getting to the unit.
I can not tell if the unit needs to be charged first or if it comes charged as you did not post the model.

Seeking the repair of my tomtom Go 910
One suggestion is to plug the Tom Tom using the temporary power cord to you home circuit (not the power source from the car). That worked for me. Sometime the Tom Tom shuts down when left in the hot car requiring a reset. Then the best way is to plug in at home and restart. Try it, otherwise I can't help.
