My FPT5084 is just two years old. We loved the high quality pitcure. Last night while watching it 'turned off'. Now it will not power on. I have confirmed that the outlet is good on the surge suppressor.
This guy is great! I believe I have the same problem with my TV and got a quote from Geek Squad for $500 to fix it.... I can't wait to try this and see if I can fix for under $10. Hi Plasma TV's are subject to a lot of heat, thus we have parts inside that degrade because of this. The TV needs to go to a reputable repair person. Good luck

After 10 years it will be likely that the Kinetic capacitor will need upgrading. Your watch is designed to tick in two second intervals to tell you the power is very low. The power button will work again when it has some power to show. Yorkshire Watches www,yorkshirewatches.co.uk can do the upgrade for you if your in the UK. Give them a ring.
Exact same thing happened to me last night. The TV only received High Def chanles. When switched to reg. chanels, there are green vertical lines. Light is definitely on and visible in the back. Now goes out after abut 30 sec. Misery loves company. Will watch the site for a solution. 4yrs. old just went off extended warranty 45 days ago. damn
The x-sus or y-sus panel wil be the fault.Check the fuses on these panels ,if one of the fuses is open then that panel must be replaced. Not verry cheap to replace.
You have an old tv so the best problems are bad capacitors and bad grounds. Have someone pull the board and search for high voltage caps [160volts or 250 volts] with 1 to 4.7 microfarads. Should be two or maybe three and check all grounds. If the 4 amp fuse is good than the above will save your TV.
You will need to upgrade that fuse with a Samsung authorized upgrade. The part number is DH81-11975A and is available from http://www.hermanelectronics.com/HermanStore/homepage.asp
If you use just the standard type it will go again in a few weeks.
I have two RCA HD52W59 TV's. I have had one for 3 years and one 4 years. The one I have had for 4 years is giving me the problem. Last week the tv turned off while watching it. It wouldnt come right back on. 10 minutes later we tried and it worked fine. the other night the kids were watching and it turned off and smelled like something burning. I tried turning it right back on and got no power at all. I tried to turn it on two days later and it made a buzzing noise and the green light went out. Never did get a picture, no powering up on the screen. Any ideas? Don't want to spend alot of money. Really loved the TV hope it isnt junk now. Better yet I hope the same thing doesnt happen to the other one I have.
This may denote a proble in either your switching powers supply or your Horizontal section derived high voltage power supply. These are both very dangerous sections in your television. My next question is important; do you have a background in electronics? If not I would not advise you working on this problem yourself and that you take the TV to a repair shop for servicing. If you do have some background in electronics, I would like for you to make the following obeservations:
What was the TV doing (it actions)prior to it going out?
Did you hear any sounds before it went out like buzzing or crackling?
What do you hear when you try to turn it on now, clicking?
These questions are just to develop some background into what might be happening to your set.
Thank you,
