Audio and Video (Windows Media, Real Player, and player software) freezes up
For some reason (as of late), when I'm playing any streaming audio and/or video files, it will play just fine for the 1st 45 seconds - 2 minutes, then "freeze up" (e.g., begin 'buffering', start playing for a few more seconds...then freeze up again). In the case of my Windows Media Player [10], the freeze-up often cause the player to produce a "Not Responding" / "End Program" message.
This is happening on my Dell Latitude D620, Windows XP Professional SP2 (2002).
Specs:
Genuine Intel(R) CPU
T2300 @ 1.66GHz
981 MHz, 1.00 GB of Ram
This seems to be happening whether I'm working off of my home network (Belkin Wireless Router / Yahoo High-Speed DSL), or my T-1 line at work. No other programs are working slowly (internet speed, non-audio/video applications, etc.), its only when playing audio or video through WMP, Real, YouTube, Yahoo media player, you name it.
Very frustrating...any ideas as to what I need to do to remedy this??
Thanks for the reply. I know my way around a CPU...but not "super savvy" - at least as far as your comments. How do you "configure [your] realtime setting"? 'mcuyg',

Question. It seems that this problem started occuring when I connected my new Wireless Router (connected for my work-provided Dell Latitude D620 and our Dell Dimension 8400 Intel(R) Desktop Computer.
I'm using [what is described as a "recent standards-based" security connection technique] the WPA-PSK security mode/authentication (with a TKIP encryption technique).
My previous router was a [traditional] "wireless g" connection, although my new "wireless n" router claims to be backwards compatible (802.11g/b). Not sure if the "n" technology is causing this issue with my audio/video streams pausing/freezing (I bring this up because I thought the problem was limited to my laptop, but then my wife played some video on YouTube (using our desktop CPU) and it experienced the same, sudden "freeze" about 30 seconds into the video.
Hopefully this sheds some additional light on the situation and a solution accordingly (btw, my Adobe Flash Player, etc. is updated).
Thanks again.

Mkv files to play correctly require quite powerful computer. Try mpg, MPEG codes but even those when used for high definition video my require some processing power.
Install DivX on your system, it could easily solve your problem, or install new version of media player or play your stuffs by other players like real player, jet audio, quick player
do you have video software installed ? Real Player, Jet Audio, Windows Media Player .......etc
make sure you have them and if you're trying to play a move, look at the extension ( Name.WMV) .WMV is for windows media video, which works on windows media player. you have to have the right program to play the video you want depending on the extension.
I have Jet Audio, its a very good program that can play many types of movies. you just go to preferences ---> file type associations ---> then check all and it will play almost any video or audio file you have. without needing to download all other software. One For All
