Try using a different keyboard and check if it does the same thing. If it does, then scan your computer for outdated drivers using RadarSync. You can Google for the updates as per the software suggests or you can let the software run the update.

Install touch pad (synaptic) driver from compaq website. Than disable it

restart your computer. on boot it will say press del for bios. do that. in case it enters the bios menu then keyboard is fine. probably some virus in windows. if not then your keyboard is damaged.

just above ur touchpad there will be a buttoun with some light ( orange) glowing push that button,and ur mouse will be active.

os? vista, 7, x64??? ok lets get to a base point. you had a different mouse, is it still installed? Is the dongle still plugged in? are the drivers loaded? uninstall drivers in control panel. remove all traces of every other mouse, pad, pointers, etc from your cq60. in device manager you should show Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad under MICE AND OTHER POINTING DEVICES. if after reboot the touchpad is still not working then right clock the Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad in the device manager and select uninstall. reboot. let me know when you get to that point.

The notebook model you have is shipped with the Synaptics touchpad driver. Please follow the below steps to enable scrolling features:

1. Open Control panel -> click on Mouse . It will display Mouse Properties dialog box.
2. Under Mouse properties Window click the Device Settings tab
3. Click on Device Settings -> Settings button. This will display the Properties for Synaptics TouchPad on PS/2 port.

4. Follow the steps below to enable the Tapping Feature :

Highlight Tapping in the Left hand side , and Check the Enable tapping in the Right hand box .

5. Follow the steps below to enable Scroll feature:

Highlight Virtual Scrolling in the Left hand side and Check both the boxes in the right hand side.
6. Click OK .
Alternatively you can anble scrolling by reinstalling touchpad driver.

Fantastic, thank you for posting above that removing the battery sorted the problem. I had exactly the same problem as you with being able to sign in with my password but neither the keyboard or touch pad worked past this point. It's weird that the keyboard worked for signing in with the password but then didn't work anywhere else. Wonder what causes the problem coz I can't think of a logical explanation. Anyway I didn't have to hold the on/off button down for 2 mins. Just removing the battery and then replacing it cured it. I can't thank you enough for helping me to solve this.

Hello, seems like a problem with the touchpad, first disable and enable the touchpad with the button which is located at the top of the touchpad, the corresponding LED should change from blue to orange and vice versa. If this doesn't solve the issue, reinstall the driver for the touchpad, you can find this by searching for 'recovery manager' in the start bar. Next step is to select 'advance options' and choose reïnstall hardware driver, there should be an option called 'Synaptics touchpad driver' select and install. kr Gijs

The touchpad on my Compaq Presario CQ60 has stopped responding

open the laptop and bring out the keyboard .
whash it with Alkohol and after 20 minuts dry it
and after 3 hours install it and test.
if dosent solved i have it .i can send u
