Mitsubishi VS50707 Good day: Our wonderful Mitsubishi is starting to fail us. These symptoms were come and go, and now appear regularly just seconds after the set is turned on. Without proper testing I would only guess that this problem is the power supply has failed.

Could possibly be the anti theft system. Check out this link. When the SECURITY fails, you should see a light on the dash that says security. A symptom of a failed anti theft is starting for 1-5 seconds and then stalling repeatedly. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

The most common failure is the convergence IC's for what you are describing. They are large black flat-pack items mounted on aluminum, finned heatsinks. They will have numbers on them like STK392-110 or STK392-120. Yours may be different but most start with STK392-___. There may be some resistors that overheated and failed,... they are usually mounted near the IC's. They will be darkened towards the middle area. Google "Mitsubishi convergence repair kit" and you'll find suppliers who will sell you what you need , quite often with complete instructions. on off sensor/switch bad, pretty soon it probably won't come on at all

how old is the battery. may want to replace the battery if is older then 2 years.

This unit is a analog television.

I'll take a guess here that the lines are at a slight angle. I believe that these are "retrace" lines and are an indication that the flyback transformer is starting to fail. The vertical IC would cause a collapse of the picture and bad caps in the circuit would effect the linearity of the picture. You can check for poor solder joints as they could cause any nunber of symptoms.

My TV did the same thing for a couple of years. It is the precursor to the capasitor going out on the DM board. The good thing is that the capacitors only cost around 4 dollars if you can soldier them yourself.
