Motorola ROKR z6--the display looks like it is only showing 16 colors--kind of like Windows in Safe Mode. The phone did this on its own. I haven't been able to find any settings that would allow me to change the color depth. The rest of the phone seems to work fine. The phone was fine for the first month.

When you receive your email with your unique Motorola unlocking codes, you may see there's actually more than one code as some models require more than one code to unlock them fully. However, for simplicity, we do aim to send you a single unlock code.
The unlocking code is 3rd part in this example: 12345678.
(We may also return your IMEI number, simply ignore this, it will always be the first)
Motorola Models
1. Switch On your phone with a SIM Card not from the original network. (IE Not the network it's locked to)
2. The phone should now show the message 'Enter Special Code' or 'Enter subsidy code'
3. You can now enter the Unlocking Code provided to unlock the phone.
WARNING : If One of these messages is displayed:
- 'Contact Service Provider'
- 'Tamper Alert'
- 'Wait before enter special Code'
- 'Contact Service'
It's because too many incorrect codes have been entered. To reset this, you will need to leave the phone on displaying this error message, until it changes to 'Enter Code Special' or 'Enter subsidy code'. This can take up to 72 hours.
Note: If your phone is on a 'Three' network, you will need to enter * * 0 5 7 * to open another window to enter your code.
It sounds like the PC video color setting is at 16 instead of 24 or 32 bit color setup. You need to check the display properties setting on the PC (Right click on the desk top). Also try it on other PC and also check the VGA cable.
Use System Failure Settings to Stop Automatic Restarts.
1. Click Start and Open the Control Panel
2. Go to System.
3. Select Advanced Tab and then go down to Startup and Recovery. 4. Settings then uncheck the Automatically Restart.
Try that and see if you can sort it out from there. Hope this helps!
You are using a screen resolution that is not supported by your monitor. Start the computer in safe mode and open display properties. What ever resolution and color depth is (usually 640x480 and 16 colors), click OK button.
Restart the computer. Go to display properties and increase the color depth to the maximum value. Set the resolution to 800x600. Restart the machine.
Do you see double screens? No? Great! Now try increasing the resolution to the next level. (1024x768). When you click 'apply' you will be give 15 seconds to say it is OK. So if you see double screens, do not click anything. Display will revert to 800x600 resolution (and you will see only a single screen!)
This may not be the problem with your phone, but I had the display go out on another motorola (razr) and it was the flex cable that goes from the main board to the screen. Since the ROKR doesn't have a flex cable it is less likely that is your problem but it is worth checking the cable to the LCD anyway. I know that with the RAZR, the cable is fairly loosely held in place and would be easy to knock loose if the phone was dropped. If that is not the problem, you should be able to get a display on ebay for a lot cheaper than from Motorola. here is a current auction for an LCD: http://cgi.ebay.com/For-Motorola-Z6-Rokr-Original-LCD-Display-Screen-Tools_W0QQitemZ300242976439QQihZ020QQcategoryZ20336QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem if you can't find the LCD by itself I would recommend looking for a broken phone on ebay to swap screens with.
make sure that your BT - Bluetooth device is on,if it is on and you are still unable to rec/send then master reset the phone if that still does not work then you make need to take the phone into a service center and have it check.
possibly screen color depth is set to 16 colors.
- open control panel display
- settings tab, slide the color depth to 16 bit.
- change resolution to 800 x 600 for now. reboot and see if that does the trick, then readjust settings to your tastes.
