Well, there are a couple of places where washers can leak.
  • There are a couple of hoses underneath: from the tub to the water pump, and from the water pump to the drain connector.
  • The fill sensor switch has a length of small diameter tubing that connects to the outer tub.
  • The tub itself could rust through (as it did when my 1984 washer was about 22 years old)
  • The seal or bearing where the motor shaft goes through the outer tub could have failed.
You will have to take the back cover off and run a cycle to identify the site of the leak.

Where would the water come from if it is draining from the bottom of the washer when trying to fill tub

more than likely the pump is cracked and as it fills its leaking out. If I had the model number off the machine I could give you a better answer

sounds like the freezer defrost drain is frozen up or plugged . It is under the evaporator behind the freezer back panel. I use boiling water to clear and you may have to clear the line at the bottom where it dumps the water in the tray.

Washer slowly fills with water when not in use. I

I have the same problem. The only problem that I have is not knowing how much water will eventually go into the tub. It takes about 4 or 5 days to accumulate about a gallon. I called the Whirlpool service center and the woman said they recomend turning the water off after each use-I think this is ridiculous. If going away on vaca maybe. Rob

The washer fills with water but will not complete the cycle. Since it started this, it did finish 2 or 3 loads sporatically, but doesn't seem that it will even do that now.

We had the same problem. Luckily, we bought a 3 yr extended warranty. The appliance tech came in, pulled out a screw driver and tightened the lid. He said the left side frequently comes loose and that is where the sensor is that tells the machine the lid is closed. Tighten up the lid and see if that solves it. This washing machine BLOWS. We have had the warranty people out 4 times since we bought it. It's only two years old. First there was no hot water, the tech opened the machine and the connecter to tell the machine to use hot water was never connected at the factory. Water leaking from the bottom, don't remember what that was. Oil leaking from the bottom, replaced trnsmission seal. Fills with water and stops, loose lid. What a lemon.

5 yr old washer is leaking

Ellbee, remove the two screws at the bottom of the front panel and lift it towards you. Two clips on the top that hold it will release. You can now get a good look at the pump. Catriver..post back.
