I removed the connector at "J5J3 pswrd."

this is the blue thing between the battery and the card slot.

i tried everything else such as new M/B battery. remove/change ram. take out extra card, etc.

I just fixed my dell dimension 3100 by doing this.

Here is the link to the manual for your computer: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim3100/en/sm/adtshoot.htm#wp1124612
The answer depends on whether your power button light is a solid yellow or flashing yellow. Likely that you could need a new power supply. Check the diagnostic lights (the numbers that are lit up on the front panel) and follow the manual. Dell support can assist you with locating the necessary part(s).

My dell dimension 3100 is not coming on it just blinking orange light

No bleeping sound? Then I would say that your RAM is no good.
If the coolers don't run I'm afraid that the processor is faulty.
Any more I cannot tell you right now, sorry.

When i start up my dimension 3100 dell desktop instead of a green light i get a flashing amber light. people say it is the power supply but the light wouldnt even come on if it was. can you please help me?

No, the light WOULD come on if it was a Power Supply problem.

1) If ALL of the LED lights on your computer were on at once, they would use less than 1 Watt of power.

2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts.

3) A typical Processor uses from 51 to 125 Watts. Depends on what Processor it is.

Dell Dimension 3100 desktop computer?
An Intel Pentium 4.

Intel Pentium 4 model 640.
Can operate up to a frequency rate of 3.2GigaHertz. (3.2GHz)
Fits in a Socket 775 processor socket. (Also know as Socket T)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_4_microprocessors#Prescott_2M_.2890.C2.A0nm.29

Can use up to 84 Watts.

You have enough power to light that LED light, but not enough power to turn the Processor on.

Dimension 3100 turns on the power button has a steady orange light there is also an orange light on motherboard cpu and power suplly fans working but wont bot up

Blinking amber (orange) indicates a problem with the power supply inside the computer. If the system cannot boot and there is a solid amber light, this could indicate a problem with the power connections for the CPU on the system board (see "Power Problems" in your Owner's Manual).

Dimension 3100 wont turn on the power button has a steady orange light there is also an orange light on motherboard

Try a different keyboard. If that does not help, then you have a serious problem:
* power-supply not sending all the voltages (5V, 12V) that it should be sending;
* video-card loose in its socket;
* video-card malfunctioning;
* RAM loose in its socket(s);
* RAM that is malfunctioning;
* problem with the motherboard.

If you don't know how to trouble-shoot each of the above problems, it's time to take the computer to a qualified technician, for proper analysis & repair.

My dell dimension 2400 goes on standby automatically.

If the power LED on the Tower is blinking amber, then most likely the power supply in the tower is failing. Replace the power supply.

Dell 3100 will not turn on.THere is a yellow light on motherboard

If you are getting an orange light on the motherboard the power supply is not the point of failure. Its good to power off the computer when not in use. it will not only save power but also reduce depreciation to the hardware due to heat. Getting back to the issue. Check the status of the power light on the tower. if it is blinking try to reseat the memory power connectors on the motherboard and any PCI cards and video cards. If reseating all components does not help try powering on the computer with the parts discoonected, If still no go it is a possible motherboard failure.

Rate if useful.

Dell Dimension 5150 automatically turns off

That flashing amber light is usually a sign the power supply is failed or is failing. I would suspect the power supply is the problem in yours. It is the better of the two problems connected with the flashing amber light..the other is motherboard is failing. Arrrr!
hope this helps (it takes a standard- oh say 350 watt 20-24 pin power supply unit.)
Hope an answer helps.
Please leave rating, thankyou

Dell 3100 no coming on

Did you checked whether the CPU / tower is turned on.. press some keys on your keyboard to make it active.

This might looks funny but it works all the time :)
