How much do dog harnesses cost and where can I buy one for my dog?

This really depends on the size of your dog and the style of harness you want. The price range from small to large harnesses ranges from $6.99-$54.99. I suggest looking around to find the right harness for both your dog and your wallet!

I have a small dog and want to buy a harness but at the same time would like to really avoid putting pressure on my dogs neck. Can anyone suggest a harness for me?

In my opinion, they best harness for your dog would be a vest harness. These harnesses put no pressure around your dogs neck whatsoever.

I have seen harnesses that appear to be quite difficult to use with straps going all over the place. What kind of harness is this? I would like to avoid all the confusion.

I think you are referring to a standard (Roman) harness and YES they used to be extremely complicated. Recently this style of harness has been updated so that they are easy to put on and comfortable for your dog. You simply slip the harness over your dogs head, place one leg through the "armhole" and then bring the bottom strap round and fasten.

What is a step-in harness and why should I get one for my dog?

I have a step-in harness and I love it. It is very easy to use and is comfortable for my dog. To wear, the dog simply steps into the harness (hence the name) then brings the ends up over your dogs back and fasten the buckle. Very easy to use!

Are there different types of harnesses? If so, how do I choose the right one for my dog?

There are several types of harnesses available including: a step-in harness, standard harness, vest harness. Choosing the right style harness for your dog can be tricky. It heavily depends on the size of your dog. You should go to a local pet store and speak with a professional to get a better fit for you.

How do I measure my dog properly for a harness?

You need to use the measurement of the girth (around the dogs chest just behind the front legs), allowing space for two fingers to fit between the harness and your dogs body. I have also attached a video here that may be helpful.

Are dog harnesses more comfortable for my dog than collars?

Harnesses are a lot more comfortable than collars for the dog as the strain is evened out over the body - however getting them on is a bit of a chore and it's not comfortable for the dog to wear it all the time so I prefer to use a collar, they are not harmful and as long as they are not on too tight the dog isn't suffering. Also for identification a collar is always better as it is on all the time and you can add their tags to it.

Can chocker chains harm my dog?

Chokers are only meant for training dogs however a lot of people use them for everyday life - if put on correctly the choker will not ham your pet, however if put on incorrectly it could make it so it does not release. I found this site that has great tips on how to put on a dog choker http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+2085&aid=1117
