It might be more efficient to make the calculator perform a self-test. Here is the procedure.

Verifying Proper Operation (Self-Tests)

If it appears that the calculator will not turn on or otherwise is not operating properly, use one of the following procedures.

1. With the calculator off, hold down the [ON] key and press [X] (the multiply key)..
2. Release the [ON] key, then release the [X] key. This initiates a complete test of the calculator’s electronic circuitry. If everything is working correctly, within about 25 seconds (during which the word RUNNING the display should show –8,8,8,8,8,8,8,8,8,8, and all of the status indicators (except the * battery power indicator) should turn on. If the display shows Error 9, goes blank, or otherwise does not show the proper result, the calculator requires service.

Tests of the calculator’s electronics are also performed if the [+] key or the [divide] key is held down when [ON] is released. These tests are included in the calculator to be used in verifying that it is operating properly during manufacturing and service.

If you had suspected that the calculator was not working properly but the proper display was obtained in step 2, it is likely that you made an error in operating the calculator. We suggest you reread the section in this handbook applicable to your calculation — including, if appropriate, appendix A.

Were you also clearing the financial memory with 2nd [CLR TVM], or just the storage memory? If you don't, it's going to keep using whatever value you last used for PMT.

BA II plus gives approximate answer for FV calculations

The 107,186.37 is what the future value would be if the interest per month is 0.58%, which is 6.96% per year. Try the following:
2nd [CLR TVM] 1 2 N 7 I/YR 1 0 0 0 0 0 PV CPT FV
As for rounding, you can change the calculator display to any number of digits (up to a limit, of course) by pressing 2nd [FORMAT] and then a number specifying the number of desired digits after the decimal point or 9 for floating decimal.

I am trying to get the calculator in "basic math" mode. displaying the answers in "basic form" unless i am selecting otherwise.

Hi,
The calculator has two Input/Output modes: MthIO and LineIO. Since I do not know exactly what you mean by "basic math" mode or "basic form" I must summarize some properties of each mode so that you can recognize your "basic math" mode.
  1. In MthIO, you have access to the multistory templates to enter fractions with a horizontal fraction bar etc. the exponents for the powers are raised above the main line, etc.
  2. In LineIO, what you enter in calculator is all on the same line, fraction and radical results are displayed as decimal numbers, etc.
The calculator is by default in the MathIO mode. If it not, you can restore it by pressing the key sequence: [SHIFT][MODE] (SETUP) and select [1:MthIO].
To set the LineIO as the default, you press the key sequence: [SHIFT][MODE] (SETUP) and select [2:LineIO].

Hope it helps.
Thank you for rating the solution.

How does 14+28*3-1-7*2+2*4-2-(11-2)*6+3-4+(7*2) = 1972

Hello,
Nope, result is incorrect.
On your favorite (basic) calculator enter the calculation exactly as it is written, without forgetting the parentheses and you will find you result, once you press the equal sign.
Hope it helps.

HOW TO INTER FRACTION ON A TI-83

Hello,
Once you enter a fraction the calculator calculates it and displays a decimal result. So basically you cannot do fraction manipulations. However you can convert a decimal result into a fraction. To do the conversion, you enter the decimal number then you Press [MATH] and [1]. ( -->Frac) The number will be converted.
Similarly you can enter a fraction to a decimal number (-->Dec)
[MATH] [2:] [ENTER]. But I see no point in doing that, because any fraction entered is displayed as a decimal number.

Hope it helps

Haveing trouble getting the IRR using the BA II plus advanced business analyst. i am punching in the pv, fv, plus/minus pmt, and n. them computing the I. keeps giving me the wrong figure. The pv is 0, fv=...

I get 6.085%. Make sure the fv and pmt are of opposite signs. You're either making annual payments and getting a lump sum back at the end, or receiving annual payments and then paying it all back in a lump at the end. Either way, the money is moving in opposite directions.
