The easiest way to do this is by usb. You will need to download the 6.2 palm desktop/hotsync manager (yes, it says it will not work with your prism... I know.)
Then you'll need to download pimlico's palmhotsyncsetup tool, that will allow it to work.

If you have hotsynced your Visor with a PC (or Mac), the first time you sync your Visor to that computer, it should restore all the data from the last hotsync to the PDA. This is one big reason that it makes sense to sync your PDA on a regular basis.
Unfortunately, if you never used the hotsync function for your Visor, you may not be able to recover any of your data. This model Handspring Visor requires good batteries or else everything in its memory will randomize and you will lose all stored information. There is a small capacitor in the Visor that provides enough reserve power for about 30-60 seconds when you pull out the batteries. It's for this reason that Palm recommended pulling out only one battery at a time when changing to a fresh set. That minimized the amount of time that the PDA would be without power. That same advice applies equally to Visor PDAs.
First thought is that the cable has become defective - they do go wrong.
Assuming the visor is fine other than when hotsyncing, I suggest you reinstall the Desktop manager and hotsync manager on your PC or Mac, HAVING BACKED UP ALL FILES of course.
Sometimes the managers get corrupted and cause problems. Try that first, then check cable and finally a hard reset, assuming you have hotsynced recently and so won't lose loads of information.

make sure that you have the Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager 4.1.4E it includes Palm Outlook Conduits. The "E" stands for Extended, meaning that this version of Palm Desktop is intended for devices that have the extended PIM applications.
afterward, use the program PocketMirror to sync your outlook and the handspring device.
Recent version's of the HOTSYNC app have a provision for IR transfers (older versions may not though). So you should check the HOTSYNC app on the Visor and see if it already has IR transfer abilities.
If it does:
Use the downarrow to specify the IR transfer on the Visor. Setup HOTSYNC on the computer to accept IR transfers. Line up the ports and tap the HOTSYNC button on the Visor's display.
If it doesn't:
You may be outta luck. Downloading an updated version of the HOTSYNC app (or some other utility) won't help because you'll need to Sync in order to get the app on the Visor.
Assume that your Visor is your data respository. So you should make sure that you have an up-to-date synchronization from the NT PC.
Now get the XP compatible software for your Visor from the palmOne website and install it on the XP box. I assume that you will be synching via USB this time - this is the default setup when you install the software. Hopefully you still have the USB cradle that came with the Visor. You can still use serial sync with XP but you should try to take advantage of the speed of USB on the new PC.
Download for XP & Visors: http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/visor/win_desktop_401.html
Once the software is installed, sync with the new computer and all your data should be copied from the Visor to your PC in the first synchronization. By the way, Outlook shouild be installed on the new computer before you install the Visor software; otherwise the installer will not offfer to install the PocketMirror conduits.
Unfortunately, there is no change to this behavior when you download a new copy of the 4.0.1 desktop software.
I have the same issue, only it used to crash my system about every 5th or 6th sync. Now it seems to do it every time.
I also ran the utility which eliminates the registry entries, and then reloaded the hotsync/desktop software, but the crashes continue.
I too, have a Presario. I'm wondering if we have a driver problem with the PC.
