How do I lighten a dark picture

Hi Richard,
Please try reducing the contrast a little and increasing the brightness till the dark shots are clear. Please also check the back light setting. It should not be too low. This should make all the dark scenes clearly visible if it only a setting problem. In case the overall brightness has reduced, please consult a local TV Tech.

Check 'brightness' and 'contrast' settings in (usually) 'picture' menu. Use a recording (DVD etc.) of a dark scene to adjust the picture. My TV (not Sharp) has several pre-programmed picture settings. If yours has that, maybe one of them will be good. Otherwise, use manual settings.

Kdl 52v5100 gets dark

Try whether you have the same problem when using a DVD player. Go to settings of menu, select picture settings, try adjusting the backlight level/brightness/contrast/sharpness/color etc. to your liking. Check whether you get the same problem if you use the same input on another TV.

I have the same problem when going to dark scenes from a bright scene or during channel changes. Sharp sent a tech under warranty and he installed new software to no avail. He called sharp tech support and they suggested turning on opc. The TV works fine but you must adjust sharpness and contrast to achieve an acceptable picture. I paid $868.00 for the set a Sam's club and will buy an extended warranty. I will not buy another sharp. My 40" sony works perfectly.

Adjusting visuals on the TV does nothing

This problem may have been coming from the Flyback Transfromer or the Tippler, you have to be a technician to adjust that! if you are, well first thing is to put the TV ON and sent up all the level to max for the brightness & Contrast, then after try to adjust the Flyback screen voltage for hi bright, if it work there, try back now to see if you are getting any control of the menu of brightness & contrast to work! please be careful, there about 28K volts to 35K volts, this can kill anyone... IF YOU ARE NOT A TECHNICIAN PLEASE DO NOT OPEN THIS TV.... RandyXi CriticaL PaniX

Picture adjustment questions

*The brightness control setting determines how bright your picture will be. *The contrast control sets the gain of the video circuit. This determines the difference between dark and light scenes. Low contrast settings make the picture "hazy". High contrast settings make the picture more distinction between dark and light scenes. *The sharpness control determine the frequency response of the video circiut. High sharpness settings give better resolution but also shows more noise in your picture. Lower sharpness settings smoothe out the picture removing noise but also fine detail. It needs to be set for the best all around picture. *Picture Enhancement is pre-set adjustments which give you different picture qualities. You just select the one you like. Stargazer
