I want to use the apc 650 pro to run on my 900 watt generator.I will be pulling about 400 watts, will this smooth out the voltage from my generator to my radio? Is there anything I must do to use the apc in...

the battery back-up will smooth out the voltage, You will definitely need a battery in or else it will beep nonstop and drive you batty! the APC should have surge protected outlets already built into it. And since you will be using it outside of a computer environment, im guessing on a worksite, there will be nothing extra you need to do besides plugging it in. I would suggest plugging it into a stable voltage for the first hour or so to allow it to charge the battery.

These beep error codes may help you.
1. Four beeps every 30 seconds (On Battery LEDwill be illuminated)
This alarm indicates that the Battery Power Suppliedoutlets are now supplying battery power as opposed to power from the utility. If the UPS determines that the input utility power is unsafe for your computerequipment, the UPS will switch to battery power.
Note: Ifthe power disturbance is brief, you may only hear one or two beeps.

2. Continuous Beeping (On Battery LED will beilluminated)
This alarm indicates that a Low Battery condition hasbeen reached and that the UPS will soon shutdown. Once the UPS transfers to OnBattery operation, it can only stay on battery for a limited amount of time. The UPS will sound this alarm about two minutes before the batteries aretotally exhausted. Once exhausted, the UPS will shutdown and turn off itsoutput power to your equipment. If you hear this tone you should immediatelyshutdown your computer to prevent data loss or corruption.

3. Continuous Beeps for 30 seconds (Back UPSOFFICE 250 and 280 ONLY)
This alarm indicates the unit has detected an Overloadcondition after it has performed a self-test during start-up.

4. Continuous Two-Tone Beep
This alarm indicates a severe Overload was detectedwhile the unit was on-battery operation. This tone will continue to sound untilthe unit shuts down.

5. Continuous Tone (On Battery LED will beflashing)

Any schematics available for a APC Back-UPS Pro 650PNP? I installed a new battery (yes correct polarity) and smelled a little smoke. It was unplugged during the battery swap. I took the cover off but...

hi, i don't have the schematic but, i think if you connected the batteries okay and had switched off the machine then it should work. when switching on there are two sounds that come, first its a beep, if you release the ON SWITCH the UPS will just do a self test then shutdown. to switch ON the UPS completely don't release the on button until you hear a second beep, if you release the ON switch when this beep is on, then the UPS will be ON completely.

After a power outage my apc has this clicking sound. every 4 seconds or so it sounds like it clicks and then a slightly different click 4 seconds later. However, when everything is powered up it doesn't...

I found this on the APC website;
Question: What would cause a Back-UPS Pro, a Back-UPS Pro USB, a Back-UPS RS, a Back-UPS CS, a Back-UPS LS, or A Back-UPS XS to beep once every 5 seconds with no output power?
Answer: One beep every 5 seconds is an indication that the UPS has entered what is called "Low Voltage Sleepmode".
The Back-UPS product has transferred to battery power due to a low voltage condition at the wall. The Back-UPS has remained Onbattery until its runtime was totally exhausted, however, there was still enough voltage present at the wall to trickle charge the battery.

This is considered to be a normal operating state. When the voltage returns to normal the Back-UPS will wake up and restore power to the battery outlets.
