Hd dvd just bought a hd dvd player will play normal dvd but not hd dvds can you help

If this does this with all movies? and they are store bought originals and not scratched or have finger prints on the bottom of them? Your dvd player might need cleaning or the laser might be wearing out. Also ensure that you have the latest firmware update installed on it. You can install this update (ver 1.6) by simply pluggin in your ethernet cable to the back of your Player and follwing the steps on page 57 of your manual.

HD is not HDMI. An HD disc needs an HD DVD player.

Hi, sorry to have break it to you but your self diagnosis was correct! It is a 'normal' DVD player that upscales and will NOT play HD discs.

1) Turn on player
2) Open tray, put disc in tray but don´t close
3) Push T.search on remote
4) Push 1, 3, 9 and "Region number" (e.g. 1 for US discs)
5) Push T. search on remote.
You will see TEST on your player
6) Press PLAY on the remote

It should recognise the discs. If you just bought it new, it's under warranty. Take it back and exchange it.

If it plays everything except HD DVDs, then the player needs to have it's software updated. Not sure how this is done. You may have to contact the manufacturer, or return it to the store you bought it from. If it has problems playing all discs, then the laser may be dirty or out of alignment. Buy a cd/dvd cleaner and try it. These are simply discs that have a little area on them that you put a drop of cleaning solution and then insert into the player. If you are mechanically inclined, you can try opening up the player and using some rubbing alcohol on a Qtip to clean the laser lens (if it is accessible).
