I have a nuvi garmin i cut the charger to connect perment

I have a nuvi garmin i cut the charger to connect it to perment power supply in my car why does it not work .....when i cut the charger i saw it has a power wire and a earth . i connected it correctly to the wires of car.....does not work is there a reason why?

hi thanx.......yes i did it as per normal i connected earth and power to 12 volt supply , but i think the charger of the garmin is optical fibre.

it didnt work i even installed a in line fuse to avoid hurting the gps.......for some reason (optical fibre) it doesnt work. or the gps is buggered.

Are you sure the wires of your car have power to them? Did you use a wire for ground or did you ground it to the chassis. Try grounding it to the chassis. Some wires may only have power when the key is on or the engine is running.

Garmin nuvi 1300 will not power up

Common problem is a loose/broken charger port. This will prevent the unit from powering up when connected to an external charger and will prevent the battery from charging. The unit will appear dead. My nuvi 260W displays the computer plug in sybole then turns of both while move and sitting still an d is connected to power supply. I have bought new connector for power supply.

Whenever you see the computer to GPS symbol pop up while using the DC car charger, this is an indication of a loose USB jack (bad connection) between the jack and the printed circuit board.

You should only see this symbol when connected to the PC using the USB cable. You should never see it when using the charger. Please see this link for more information and how to have it repaired:

Will my Garmin Nuvi 40 work with a 24 volt supply ?

If you are using a standard Garmin car charger, you can connect the charger to a DC power source that can provide between +10VDC to +30VDC. The charger produces +5VDC to power the Nuvi. This can be verified on the charger label.
You can NOT connect any voltage higher than +5VDC directly to the Nuvi.

HOw do you charge it?

This unit comes with a charger (AC). There is alxo a car charger. Both have a USB connecter that plugs into the side of your unit.

I have a garmin nuvi 350. It suddenly quit. It would not power up. I bought new car charger and wall charger specifically for nuvi 350. Both charger would not power up the gps at all. Is my battery dead or...

I would say this is not a battery problem. A Nuvi will power up even with the internal battery disconnect (done it many times myself ) when connected to an external power source. Please see this link about Dead Nuvi's. Have you tried pressing the reset button behind the antenna?

When connects to power in the car, it thinks it is connecting to the computer.

if your charger not original garmin you should make this modification on mini usb port. tested works with non original chargers (min 500mA).

Nuvi 250 will not turn on when charging.

There are two types of leads that you can buy.

The one supplied with the Garmin expects you to plug the GPS into the PC via the USB and if you use this to try and charge your Garmin in your car it will think it is connected to the PC and show the connection screen. it will charge the unit but you can't see the map.!!!

Make sure that you buy a lead specially for the Garmin for use in the car its the only type of SAT NAV that you will have this problem with.

Garmin Nuvi 650 powers off when connected with car

I had this problem. The problem turned out to be my car charger. Hooking the GPS up to my computer allowed it to charge and operate normally. A new car adapter might fix you right up.

Garmin nuvi 200 pick up charger as a usb cable

The problem is very simple... The GPS unit perceives whatever you plug in depending on the power supply figure.
If you car charger is not giving enough power, then the GPS perceive the cable as being connected to a pc.... thus not charging. Check with an car electrician if you can raise the power supply on your car...

Nuvi 350 wont charge with car adaptor. But charges with ac charger in usb port of Nuvi. Any thoughts? I have another Nuvi 350 that does charge with this ones car adaptor.

Are you using the same port on the Nuvi to connect the car adapter and the ac charger, or two different ones? If not, then the jack could be broken (solder joint, pin?).
