Him are you using the upper feeder or platen glass? . If copies are ok in platen glass . There is dirty in the feeder reading glass

You have to take out the glass platten, clean it on both sides.

Then clean the top of the contact sensor (scanner) lightly with alcohol.

It is a cleaning issue. There is a piece of glass about an inch wide that is next to the platen glass or inside the auto document feeder that is probably dirty depending on your model. Open up the document feeder as if you were clearing an original document jam. Look for a piece of glass inside the ADF, it will run the length of the document feeder. There is probably some dirt or another popular problem is white out. Clean off the glass with glass cleaner or alcohol and it should fix the problem.

If you can get access to the scan rails( remove the glass platen put small amount of silicone on the rails and if it moves manually(do not force )
If this does not work there may be a clutch or electrmagnetic drive that is slipping

either way it needs o be removed and cleaned

It needs a firmware update by a certified canon tech. Sorry, you should take to local service center.

This gives step-by-step instructions on how to clean the area dealing with the platen glass.

The optics may be dirty or you could have a bad drum cleaning blade.
