Hi I would suggest that the burning smell and the noise will mean that the motor is burnt out. You can get them pretty cheaply from the internet and they are quite easy to fit.

I started vacuuming and the vacuum motor slowed down, then stopped. I smelled a burning smell. Then I discovered the next day that the bag bottom was wet and falling apart. Sebo X4 model

sucked up liquid goes with the air through the motor
that would cause the motor to burn out
with the current low cost of new vacuums , the repair /replacement of the motor would be close to a new unit
take it to an appliance repair shop and get a proper diagnosis and quote

Machine wont run what is the problem

take it to your local vac shop. Could be a bad plug, a bad switch, or possibly the motor is bad. Not as likely a motor if you didn't experience a burning smell or loud noises first.

Vacuum motor noise and smell

If the ball was stuck and you sucked water into the motor it could cause it to smell like it's burning if it ruined the motor

My rotating brushes stopped rotating and my steam vac smells hot...is it a belt?

the hot smell makes me thing the motor is stuck
do not attempt to use it unless you can rotate the motor by hand. If the motor spins freely then it could be a belt. check if the belt turns

IT WILL NOT START - IT TRIES BUT DOES NOT TURN ON.

Unplug the vac and spin the acorn nut on the separator in the water reservoir. If it spins freely and this vac has run for a few years you may need a fresh set of motor brushes. Do not attempt to run the vac if the motor hums or makes a burning smell. Worn brushes are normal and can often be replaced in an older Rainbow/ Rexair

The motor makes a weird sound and starts to heat and smell like something is burning

If the motor sounds scratchy and is making a burning smell, or sparking you will need to replace the motor or the entire vac. Carbon brushes will rarely fix this as it is a high RPM motor
