How to use ipod to watch videos out on tv

I know there is an av cable that you can buy and plug into the tv to watch videos and displays photos from the ipod. This av cable can be bought for both hd tv and regular tvs. I can use this wire to watch videos using old ipods because they have an actual tv out switch which van be toggled on and off in the video settings. so when i turn it on it works on my tv. for the ipod touch however there is no such switch in the video settings. it says tv out but there is not switch like the other ipods. is there any way to turn the tv out on or is there something i am missing?

For the ipod touch, you can't use the simple AV cable that we all enjoyed with the older models. I have the 3G Ipod Video and love the ease and simplicity of plugging it in to my ipod and watching videos on TV. I also have an Iphone, so i don't have this luxury with this device.

How To Connect Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod To The TV

The following devices have support for TV out:

iPhone
iPad
iPod touch
iPod nano (3rd generation and later)
iPod classic, iPod (5th generation), and iPod photo

Note: Other iPod models may support viewing of photos or slideshows on the iPod display but do not support TV out.
The following docks support TV out when used with an iPod model or iPhone that supports TV out:

Apple Universal Dock (requires either the Apple Composite AV Cable or the Apple Component AV Cable-will not work with the iPod AV Cable). Search the store for part number MB125G.
iPod Universal Dock or iPod with color display dock (iPod photo dock)

Important: The iPhone dock does not support TV out.
iPod models that support TV out can support viewing on a television in several ways. Use the tables below to see which cables and docks can be used with each iPod model. Check the documentation that came with the cable or iPod for information on how to connect and enable TV out.
Note: If you choose to use a third-party cable, make sure it has the "Works with iPhone" or "Made for iPod" label. Learn more about iPod and iPhone accessories.

All you need to get TV out is a compatible iPhone, iPad, or iPod and the correct cable. If your device works with the component and composite cables, then the choice depends on the TV(s) you will be connecting to.

Apple Composite AV Cable (part number MB129LL) will connect any iPhone, iPad, or iPod to your TV using RCA Cables.
Apple Component AV Cable (part number MB128LL) will connect any iPhone, iPad, or iPod (except iPod with color display (iPod photo), and iPod (5th generation)) to your TV using Component Cables.

A dock can be a welcome addition if you're going to keep your cables connected to the TV. The Apple Universal Dock includes an Apple Remote so you can pause and adjust the volume from a distance. The docks and cables are sold separately.

sounds to me like the differnence between watchiing in progressive and interlace. these older tube tv's are not capable of displaying a progressive scanned image. like the first dvd players. check your video out settings on your ipod to make sure its an interlace output.

Using the iPod AV Cable
Step 11Use the Apple iPod AV cable. This plugs into the RCA ports on your TV or VCR. This is by far the easiest method. Step 22Connect the AV cable into your iPod. Plug the small end into the iPod where the earbuds would go. Step 33Connect the red RCA plug. This goes into the right audio input of the television or VCR. The colors should match. Connecting ipod to yamaha A/V receiver

To see video output on your televison, you need one of hte following versions of the Ipod:

iPod touch
iPhone (software version 1.1.1 or later required)
iPod nano (3rd generation)
iPod classic
iPod (5th generation)
iPod with color display (iPod photo)

When you plug the cord into your Audio receiver, the Ipod is only sending audio to the receiver. For your iPod to send video output to your television, you will need to buy an AV cable for your tv.
