Try resetting the SMC
Before Resetting the SMC Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
  1. Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
  2. Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
  3. Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
  4. Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
If your Mac appears to be running normally but isn't responding, force the computer to shut down by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds. Note: You will lose any unsaved work in any open applications.
For Mac portables experiencing issues related to the MagSafe power adapter and/or battery, try:
  1. Unplug the MagSafe power adapter from the Mac and the wall power socket for several seconds.
  2. Shutdown the Mac. Physically remove and re-insert the battery (if it's removable) and startup the Mac.
If the issue is still not resolved after following the troubleshooting items above, an SMC reset may be necessary.
After performing normal troubleshooting, these symptoms may indicate that an SMC reset may be necessary:
Fans
The computer's fans run at high speed although the computer is not experiencing heavy usage and is properly ventilated.
Lights
The keyboard backlight appears to behave incorrectly (on Mac computers that have this feature).
The Status Indicator Light (SIL) appears to behave incorrectly (on Mac computers that have an SIL).
Battery indicator lights, if present, appear to behave incorrectly (on portables that use non-removable batteries).
The display backlight doesn't respond correctly to ambient light changes on Mac computers that have this feature.
Power
The computer doesn't respond to the power button when pressed.
A portable Mac doesn't appear to respond properly when you close or open the lid.
The computer sleeps or shuts down unexpectedly.
The battery does not appear to be charging properly.
The MagSafe power adaptor LED doesn't appear to indicate the correct activity.
System Performance
The computer is running unusually slowly although it is not experiencing abnormally high CPU utilization.
Application icons may "bounce" in the Dock for an extended amount of time when launched.
Applications may not function correctly or may stop responding after being opened.
Video
A computer that supports target display mode does not switch into or out of target display mode as expected.
A computer that supports target display mode switches into or out of target display mode at unexpected times.

My camera is displaying error 0000018-4489-957-000, what i do ?

The screen would turn red and i would get an error message. I realized the lens lid stayed open even when the camera shut itself off. I hit the corner of the camera a few times (the side with the lens) until the lens lid shut. Then I tried to turn on the camera and it worked!

Screen dim HP pavilion dv1000

The lid actuator switch may not be working correctly. It's a small switch above the keyboard and led's on either the right or left side. Try pressing it 2 or 3 times to see if the display starts working correctly again. If so, it will need to be replaced.

If that doesn't work, you can also turn it on with the ac adapter plugged in. After it boots, press the power button and hold it in until it shuts off and then turn it on again and see if the display has returned to normal.

If neither of these options work, your laptop may need to have the backlight replaced.

HP pavillion dv9005 no display - works fine on external monitor

If the notebook's video card (which may be on the motherboard) is successfully displaying images on an external monitor it sounds more like a problem with the notebook display or its connections. Probably the motherboard is OK.

Hp inkjet 5650 cover will not close and I can't print anything.

I own several 5650's. There are two ways to solve it. Open then let the lid slam shut several times, and eventually it will close all the way. Second is to slap the right side of the printer and the vibration will let the lid close. Use gentle but firm force, I have done this alot and no damage.

Hp dv4000 screen problem

Sounds like its trying to go into sleep mode or standby or just turning the screen off.

This usualy happens because in the power options, the screen is set to shut off after say 5 minutes. It could be that the lid closed sensor is bad and it thinks your closing it and does this.

Try right clicking on the desktop, select properties, in the pop up box, select the scren savers Tab and at the bottom it should have a button for the power options.

Click that, in there you should see several new tabs partaining to your power options. one has some drop down boxes that lets you set what it does when the lid is close, when you press the power button and when you press the sleep button.

I would try turning the, " turn off screen option" to off and see if it still does it.

It usually says. 'When I close the lid to my laptop, i want it to: " then it will list the options.

Also turn off the standby settings if you want so it doesnt go into standby every time you walk away for 5 minutes.

Just set it how you want. but for now, just disable the close lid options so we can see if it still does it.

Good luck and let me know.

HP Pavillion dv9500t lcd screen is extremly dark. I can barely see anything once it is booted up. I can hook up an external monitor and the laptop functions properly with exception of the laptop screen....

From the Windows desktop, hold the fn key and press the f7 key c00776226.jpg to increase or the f8 key c00776225.jpg to decrease the brightness of the display. If using the function keys does not resolve the problem and you have a Lid Actuator on your particular model, check the movement of the Lid Actuator switch to determine that it moves freely and is not stuck. NOTE: The key numbers ( f7 or f8 ) may vary depending on the notebook PC; however, the images on the keys should be familiar. Check the movement of the Lid Actuator switch The Lid Actuator switch is available on some models. It is a small button or switch located above the keyboard near the hinge for the LCD. Pressing this switch when the computer is on may turn the notebook display off, or it may cause the notebook to enter a different power state. Press the switch two to three times while observing the display. If the display does not return to normal brightness when the switch is released, the switch may be sticking and need to be repaired. Contact HP service and support for further assistance. If the display turns off when the switch is pressed, the power management function may be set to hibernate or turn off when the lid is closed. Install updated BIOS and drivers To resolve certain hardware and software issues, use HP Health Check to automatically search the HP web site for an updated BIOS as well as any updated software and drivers. To launch HP Health Check, follow the steps below.
  1. Click Start , type health into the search field, and then select HP Health Check from the list. HP Health Check displays a list of available BIOS, software, and driver updates for your particular model.
  2. Click the description link for any BIOS, software, or driver updates, and then follow the on-screen instructions. You can only install one update at a time.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 above for all updates that you want to install.
You have now installed the available BIOS, software, and driver updates for your particular computer model.
