How find WEP on existing Linksys WRT 54G router. Laptop has made wireless connection.

Wrt54g can be used as either a wireless router or access point. I am not familiar with your broadband service, but if it has a data port just connect it to Internet port.

Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer directly to the router.
Access the web-server "inside" the router.
Login to the router, with the current ID/password.
View the wireless settings:
* SSID
* encryption-level ('WPA' or better, please)
* network password

and change it, if you need to.

I had a TEW-421 card for a time, and it can not do WPA encryption, only WEP. It's not a driver shortcoming, it's the hardware in the TEW-421 card.

Sorry to tell you it's a dead-end, but at least now you know.

Try setting your wireless security on WPA2 instead of the WEP. This is also supposed to be a more secure incryption.

Is this an ISDN modem?

Generally: Netopia Ethernet out -> Linksys WAN port with a standard ethernet cable.
(Not the yellow LAN ports! - They are for your computers/printers.)

1. Using a computer that is wired to the router, access the router's setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address field of your browser.
2. By default there is no username and password is admin.
3. Once you're in the setup page, click wireless then there is a sub tab there called wireless security.
4. You will find there the wireless key that is enabled in your router.

Check in the router settings, in your internet browser from your deskyop, type 192.168.1.1 and enter the router config screen by using a blank username, and admin for a password. Look through the settings and make sure it is set to wireless signal on. Also, look to make sure your laptop isn't made specifically for Wireless N technology. Some wireless adapters aren't backwards compatable.

heres what you should do, 1. reset the router from the liitle reset button on the back of router. 2. hook up the laptop wired into the router to set up your network from scratch. 3. write down all admin/wireless settings pertaining to security. 4. after you have all settings set right, reboot the router. 5. reboot all pc's on your LAN/WLAN, and if all planets are in alignment they will all be assigned an address by dhcp and you will be happy.
