yes thia is right, and these a electronics tech. area. try to go repair shop, to change-it. Dont try to replace, bacause you dont have necessary tools. there is 6 to 8 layer motherboard, normaly you damage the motherboard, if you try.
mother board repair or replace disc check and bios is still coming up but the part that kicks on fans for cpu isnt working hope fully it didnt damage cpu but its possible
HP will not cover the repair if guaranty is expired.
Video card on your laptop is integrated on motherboard, and the repairman must replace the whole motherboard to fix it.
I quote : "Only half the screen works the rest is justa grey colouring." that is more likely a problem with the ribbon cable, connecting LCD, or with LCD screen itself, in some case , as said by the repairman , it can be the video card. if the repairman did not open and inspected the laptop LCD display , connector and cables, then the problem it is probably the ribbon cable or the LCD panel. The technician mentioned the motherboard, because that is the most expensive repair service, so that he can cover his back.
Ask a quote to a different technician, see if this can give you different quotes for all possible faults.
the mother board can have a short and the green light is on, replace the motherboard. when the power box goes bad, most of the time it shorts the mother board out, this has happened to me a few times. Farren
