Device will not sync with computer

well, first welcome to the world of MP3 players. they are quite easy to use and if you know basic computers, you are all set.
first you should look at My Computer. upon connecting your MP3 (I'm assuming USB), you will see the MP3 player's name.
Double-clicking it will take you inside the MP3 player. For some manufacturers, they like to put folders to sort out the files, but if there are no folders, all you have to do is simply drop the music file (from your music folder) into the empty space.
It will transfer like a regular USB and after its done, you should be able to play it (after disconnecting of course). There are plenty of ways, such as using Windows Media Player for syncing and/or Winamp for the similar function, but what I suggested is the simplest and most basic.

Check to see that when you rip a music CD that your music is not copy protected. The RIP function in your Windows Media Player will allow you to convert the music CDs you have purchased into either an MP3 or a WMA format.

To adjust the copy protection setting on your ripped music files,

1. Open the Tools tab at the top of your Windows Media Player.
2. Select Options and then select the Rip Music tab.
3. Choose the type of music file as well as the quality with which you would like to save the music. (Your GPX player has the ability to play music files in both the MP3 and WMA format.)
4. Make sure to use MTP when transferring copy protected WMA files.

If you are using Windows Vista with Windows Media Player 11, you will need to follow these instructions.
Note: You will be able to download purchased/subscribed songs to the unit.

1. Start Windows Media Player 11 and then connect your unit to your computer. If you have not set up synchronization between your computer and this device, the Device Setup Wizard starts.
2. In Device Setup - Configure Sync, write a name for your mp3 player.
3. Click Finish. The window closes and the Sync feature in the Player is displayed.
4. From the left pane of this Sync feature, you can select from Playlists or Library and you will see the content of these folders in the center pane.
5. Select the songs or entire albums from the center pane.
6. Drag these songs or albums into the Sync List, which is the right pane of the Sync feature.
7. Click the Start Sync button on the Sync List pane.
8. Repeat steps 4-7 for any other items that you want to copy to your unit.

If you are using Windows XP with Windows Media Player 10, you will need to follow these instructions.
Note: You will be able to download purchased/subscribed songs to the unit.

1. Start Windows Media Player 10 and then connect your unit to your computer. If you have not set up synchronization between your computer and this device, the Device Setup Wizard starts.

Syncing music and podcasts automatically Connect iPod to your computer and open iTunes.
Select iPod in the Devices section on the left side of the iTunes window



In the main iTunes browser window, select the Music tab.
Select the option to Sync Music.



You have the option to sync all songs and playlists or selected playlists. Your iPod will need to have enough free space to sync the content that you have selected from your library. Tip: You can use the capacity bar at the bottom of the iPod settings window to determine how much free space is available. The size of a playlist can be determined by selecting it and looking at the bottom of the iTunes window.


Podcasts can also be automatically synced to iPod. Select the Podcasts tab and choose to sync all podcasts or selected ones. You can also determine which episodes are synced based on if they are recent, new, or unplayed

There are two ways to format an Mp3 player - one on the computer itself, and one in Windows Media Player. Both methods will end up erasing all the songs on the player, but the player will be "good as new" after that. Sometimes reformatting in this manner will override the player's native formatting and cause problems - this can be reversed in most cases by updating the player's firmware. Here's what happened: When you first synced your GoGear to Windows Media Player, you may have set up the automatic sync option. When this option is selected, Windows Media Player will add EVERY song, picture, etc from your Library on your computer to the GoGear. Now, every time you sync you device, it adds every new file from your computer into the GoGear automatically. It will even delete songs from your GoGear that were on there before.

Go into Windows Media Player 11 with your GoGear connected to the computer (it will automatically sync and add new files one last time), move the mouse cursor over to the sync tab; a small black arrow will appear under the word "Sync"; click on the small black arrow and a dropdown menu will appear; select "Portable media device" from the dropdown menu, and another dropdown menu will appear; select "Set Up sync"; a window will appear with some information on your device - uncheck the box that says "Sync this device automatically"; click Finish; This will eliminate the problem of Windows always adding songs/files you don't want into your player.
