Tomtom xxl problems

these have major issues during updates. mine also failed after update in very similar fashion. and after searching a lot of forums apparently its a very common thing. unfortunally i never found any solution to this. and ended up having to throw it away since it was past its warranty period. i suspect it was a buildt-in planned obsolescence since it was very rarely used (less than 6 times) but maintained at ideal long term storage condition

To reset these models, just hold the power button in for 15 seconds.

next time you buy a GPS, keep it out of the sunlight. this helps stopping it freezing up. You have fried it. Its no good so throw it away.

When I turn my tom tom 550 XXL on, it says no maps found. I have tried reloading the maps and it says not enough space available

remove some files from map folder example: cspeech_FRA.dat,cspeech_*.dat

I have a tomtom xxl 540s and it just loads tomtom logo on screen and freezes

First you need to reset the tom tom by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds, it will restart itself, from there it should get passed the tom tom logo.
If it does not do the job, then you need to connect your gps to a computer, then back up the files then you restore the files back on it after formating the gps.

Which button do you press to change the langage,on th tom tom xl

My guess is that it is the same as the XXL like mine:
"Change Preferences" has several screens accessed by the arrow key, bottom right.
On the XXL it is on screen 4 of 6. If you're lost with another language displaying the icon is 3 flags stacked on top of each other. (UK union Jack on top) Good luck!

There are 6 screens in the "Change Preferences" menu.
"Set clock" is the 1st item on page 6. (As is the "Reset factory settings" option for problems that seem insurmountable :o)

Theres good news for you, you can get a SD card for your tomtom, and all you have to do is to install or download your maps on the SD card then fix it into your tomtom and you will be able to view your maps from there. For the lost maps, connect your tomtom to your computer, be sure to have your drivers software, then you select your tomtom form your computer, then you install all lost maps back on it by restoring all old maps. But for large downloads, download all new maps on a SD card. That should do the job.
Hope this information came in handy.
