CD Player not working

Hi, I have had this stereo system for 3 years and had it in storage for the last month. I've just set it back up and everything works except for the CD player. It doesn't recognise that there is any disc in the player and just skips from Disc 1 through to Disc 3 and then stops and displays the message 'No Disc'. I would be very grateful if you could share any advice in solving this. Thanks! ON THE THREE CD CHANGER/PLAYER, IT TURNS THROUGH EACH DISC WITHOUT PLAYING AND THEN THE WINDOW SAYS, 'NO DISCS'. ALTHOUGH I HAVE ONE DISC ON THE CYPRESS LABEL THAT WILL PLAY IN THE #2 TRAY ONLY AND NONE OF MY OTHER DISCS WILL. HERE'S HOPE THE SOLUTION IS SIMPLE! TIM

I TRIED WHAT YOU SUGGESTED, BUT NOW NONE OF THE DISCS PLAYED. I TOOK THE TOP COVER OFF TO WATCH WHAT HAPPENS AND EACH CD TURNS MAYBE A I/16 OF A TURN THEN HESITATES AND STOPS, THEN THE MACHINE CYCLES TO THE NEXT DISC WITH THE SAME RESULTS.

I'M USE TO VINTAGE AUDIO SO NO I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT LENSE CLEANING. I ASSUME THE LENSE IS WHAT LOOKS LIKE A GLASS LENSE POINTING UP TOWARDS THE BOTTOM OF THE CD TRAY.

I'M REALLY SORRY I DIDN'T PUT IN A HIGHER RATING, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE USED THIS SITE AND THEY DON'T MAKE IT REAL CLEAR HOW TO AND NOW APPARENTLY THE RATING IS LOCKED IN.

Hi Sipress,
You need to make a confirmation. Your post states;
"ALTHOUGH I HAVE ONE DISC ON THE CYPRESS LABEL THAT WILL PLAY IN THE #2 TRAY ONLY "
I'm a bit sceptical about this. Please put this working disc in tray #1 and then tray #3 and repeatedly try playing it.
Please report your findings.
Jango.

Okay, just what i thought. Now, do you have any experience with identifying and cleaning the lense of a cd player?.

Correct. Now get an ear bud, ( I prefer creating one with cotton wool and a matchstick, more fluffy that way) , wet its tip with a tiny drop of window cleaner or plain water. Attempt to clean the lense by gently running the cotton head in circles over the lense top. Repeat action with a dry cotton bud. Be very gentle, do not exert pressure, use a very light hand.

Hope that gets your machine running.

I have a Samsung SCM-7450 Hi-Fi System. The CD player has stopped recognizing that there are CDs ready to play. Any suggestions?

I had the same issue with mine. I had 3 cds left in mine as well. Everything else was working fine yet when I went to play cds the player wouldn't recognize the cd and would just skip to the next cd. When I would open the carousel door to clean the cds it still didn't help. As it was very dusty in there I assumed that the lens was dirty and
perhaps the reader needed to be"pushed" a bit to free it up. Ok I got bold and decided I would have to take the beast apart. Lots of screws..... once the unit was free from those screws I found that you have to lift the phono from its top docking and tithe remove the plug in link to the adjoining circuit board. After the phono was removed it was very tedious and tricky in trying to get some separation between the tuner and cassette location.. just be patient and gentle...... I did and finally got to see the cd roulette it was very cloudy and dusty. at this point I plugged in the ac to enable the door to slide back and forth. I could see that the lens looked like it had cataracts.. quite dusty etc. I blew compressed air and freed up much of it and then took cotton swabs moisten with Lukewarm water and then used one which had commercial cd lens cleaner on it. I then gently nudged the reader back and forth. Although at an angle I placed a cd into the roulette and attempted to see if this chore had worked..... it did! It showed the amount of tracks and time etc. I then hit play and it was tracking and playing! Now the bigger task was putting this back together. Although at first daunting to ensure the screws lined up with their respected holes everything did come together. Hey only one small metal bracket didn't make it back inside.. yet everything works.. this whole ordeal took about an hour and a half. JimB Rochester NH

My JVC stereo doesn't play cd's anymore, still runs audio for tv, and radio. What is best, low price stereo option i can hook speakers up to and play cd's again?

The CD player might just need it's lens cleaning. Best way to do this is taking the top off and cleaning the lens with either Servisol Video 40 or CD lens cleaning fluid.

CD player not working

Chances are there is some dust on the lens of the player. You might need to go inside and clean it off with some Servisol Video 40 or other suitable lens cleaning stuff. The dust might have got disturbed when you put it into storage.
