Why has your diagnoses led straight to the motherboard? Would like to know what you base your diagnoses on, and if you have tested the power supply.

Check the lights at teh front of the computer. the numbers 1234 are the indicator lights. if the lights are 1 and 4 then thats a hight probability taht motehr board is dead. if not you may try reseating some parts in the computer like the memory cards, video card, modem, hard drive and optical drive. try to reseat power connectors also.

Dell chassis cannot accept a Non-Dell Motherboard with out modification. Generally simpler to use a Dell branded motherboard. You can get one here: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=dimension+5150+motherboard+&_cqr=true&_nkwusc=dimension+5150+motherbaord&_rdc=1

Dell dimension 5150 wont boot past post. I've tried afew things but nothing works. can you help? thanks

If it won't go past POST then there is a hardware error. Try removing the hard drive and RAM. The mother board should complain at power on giving messages. If it does, try fitting the RAM module by module, then the hard drive.

I have a dell dimension 5150 and when i switch on i have a white screen and can go no further?

Do you get any beeps? Search POST - power on self tests. In my experience I fear you might have a motherboard failure.

Dell Dimension 5150 will not start!

This is related to Hardware.

There might be a lose Ram of data cable connection on Motherboard.

This type of issue is also seen when the there is dust accumulation on Process Fan and CPU fan resulting in over heating.

This might also be due to malfunction of a motherboard.

The third reason could be that SMPS his not working.

Dell Dimension 5150 Boot Problems!

You can probably try two things here.

1) Go to the BIOS and reset the defaults.
2) Clear NVRAM from your Dell computer. Here is how you do it.

Try manual cleaning the graphics card and the RAM by removing from the slot and rub the pins with pencil eraser as shown in the images.

And re-attach them to the motherboard, also clean the graphics card's fan with small paint brush. Works for me, hope same goes with you.

Change Motherboard For Dell Dimension 5150

If you replace with the same motherboard that's in already, that would be easiest for you.

But if you use a different one, you'll have to re-activate Windows, and download and install new device drivers.
