Screen sometimes lights up but mostly stays dim

look khal sometimes most netbooks have a "hotkey" sequence to dim or brighten the screen on mine its Fn/F4 or Fn/F3 try this first or goto you manufacturers site and find the exact sequence of "Hotkeys" [remember Fn/F5 toggles between screen and monitor]!!

To check whether the LCD screen itself if the issue or the backlight or inverter. You have to carefully look in the screen and see if you see anything on it. It would be extremely dim but try white background and black screen. If you see something in it, then most probably it's either the backlight or the inverter. For that you need to buy those from the market and install it, OR IF YOU ARE NOT A TECH GENIUS I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU TAKE IT TO A DEALER IF ITS IN WARRANTY TAKE IT TO ACER THEY SHOULD FIX IT FOR FREE.(I dont know the rules of Acer, but most companies fix that for free)

Is the screen completely blank, or just dim? If it is dim, then most likely your lcd power inverter is bad, and needs to be replaced, which is the cheapest part to replace. If it is completely blank then you should try to hook up an external monitor to the laptop, and don't get any video, then most likely there is an issue with your motherboard or video card. The external monitor method sometimes needs you to press a combination of the Fn key and another F key in order to switch from your laptop lcd to an external monitor.

Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.

Generally this type of problem is the video card, however, it's extremely rare, but sometimes a screen malfunction will override the video out causing the appearance of a bad card. To check this, disconnect the screen, and try the external monitor. If the external works properly, then it's the screen.
