I am not familiar with that particular model but most are similar.
It may need the blue focus adjusted. Most tv's have some type of automatic focus. If the blue is out of focus it can "bloom" beyond the red and green. There should be a focus block with 6 adjustments (2 rows of 3) behind the speaker cover. I wouldn't mess with the one labeled screen or block. Adjust very carefully. They are usually in the order Red-Green-Blue with the focus on the bottom row.

Magic focus runs half way & stops &showes a #4 ? one side of a face has a green outline the other side red

You may have a burned out convergence chip. But first, if you haven't already, you can try service mode to adjust convergence. Press the Magic Focusbutton, and then press it again to stop it, and then press the Statusbutton on your remote. Here's a link to the manual convergence procedure (scroll down). Warning-- When I did this the set got stuck in one of the adjustment screens. I had to remove the bottom front panel of the TV to reach the "little blue" reset button to get back a TV picture. But I think this is worth trying before replacing parts.

Projection lights don't line up

Sounds like your convergence chips have failed. This is a common problem. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com .

HITACHI 53SBX59B, projection lights don't line up.

It sounds like bad solder connections in the convergence output circuit. It may also be an intermittant convergence output ic which will need to be replaced.

Convergence controls

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

43H70 Blue Convergence out of line and will not line back up

If the blue colors will not line up, and the blue appears to sag inward from one or more sides, then you can bet that one of your convergence IC's has either cracked loose or burned out. The IC should be resoldered or replaced and the convergence realigned by someone experienced with projection TV convergence circuits.
