Lens cap error - blue screen JVC Camcorder GR-SXM25. I can playback but when i go to record I get a blue screen with the error.

I had same problem with my gr-d73aa camcorder and jvc fixed it for free because it was manurefactures fault.

It is known problem of bad ccd imager in JVC GR-D31U camcorder that gives Lens Cap error and JVC will replace ccd imager free of cost.

There are 2 possibilities for that symptoms in JVC GR-D347U camcorder is either aparture in lens mechanism is stuck and does not pass image towards CCD Imager OR ccd imager itself got bad.
Qualified camera tech can fix it because it requires expertise.
If you want to fix it, download service manual from HERE for small fee, that will help you how to disassemble/ apart camera and part info etc.

You have a defective CCD imager - the part of the lens that receives the image. Will need to be replaced.

Contact JVC, they fix this error FREE. They fixed my GRD-50. It's a common fault with lots of them. Give it a go. Good luck.

Assuming you don't see any video through the viewfinder, it could be that the CCD has died on that camcorder. It happens, though not frequently.

If the video though the viewfinder is clear, there might be some sensor on the lens ring to indicate a lens cap, or an automatic lens cap not properly disengaging when put in record mode. 

CCD Failure/Lens Cap Warning Error JVC has received reports that in certain circumstances, the following models may, while in the camera mode, show no picture, a distorted picture and/or display “LENS CAP” even though the lens cap is removed. We have identified the probable cause as a failure of the CCD image sensor.
