Question about Palm Zire 21 P80730US Handheld

2 Answers

After a full battery recharge, a HotSync has restored all the address data to Zire 21. I only use the address function. Recently, however such a full successful HotSync produces only, Accessories and Technical Palm Websites. I've reinstalled original Palm Zire 21 program and I've performed several hard resets...paperclip in back, etc. How fix? Ben Eager. [email protected]

Of course the original data is in the PC.

  • Anonymous Mar 02, 2010

I add data to the PC. HotSync process has always updated the Zire 21 from data in PC.

At the moment, PC has all the original data. Now, Zire 21 does not post anything but,"Accessories" and "Technical" website addresses. Main existing data does not transfer.

Normal use of address data is through the PC. Occassionally, when I travel, I use the Handheld Zire 21. Sitting at home most of the time Zire 21 battery goes dead at times. All address data is lost. Soooo, I recharge it for several hours, then perform a HotSync which has in the past restored all address data to Handheld. This usually involves some resets on the Zire 21 screen.Recently, this process has produced only, "Accessories" and "Technical" website addresses for Palm. I've done hard reset several times. I've reinstalled original program.

All connections, USB, are fine. The HotSync is successful. Address data does not transfer to Handheld Zire 21 from existing address data in PC.

This HotSync Manager program has no Custom or Conduit options. Today I can no longer achieve a successful HotSync. Yesterday, I could. Application settings for Address Book, which is all I use, synchronize PC with Handheld Zire 21. Data should go both ways. No data is in Handheld. I did another reset holding down power button, as Help suggested. Solution should be so simple.

Hello beager.
have you received any error message while performing the HotSync?
Do you mean that when performing HotSync, you lost all the address data?

    Hi.
Follow these steps and check if it works (not compatible with Mac Computers).

    You have to make sure the HotSync cable is connected properly. Now, on the Windows Computer;

Check the Windows system tray to make sure the HotSync
    Manager is
running. If it is not, click Start on the Windows

    taskbar,
and then select Programs. Navigate to the Palm

    Desktop
software program group, and select HotSync

    Manager.
    You must select
    correct
    HotSync Manager settings.
Make sure you selected Local USB from the HotSync
    Manager
    menu.

Then, on the Windows computer, click the HotSync Manager and select
Custom. Check that the correct conduit is active.

May I ask what OS you're using on your computer?

  • Anonymous Mar 03, 2010

    Hi.
Look at this as you should be able to see and select from the conduit list.

Hello and welcome to fixya.

What exactly is the problem with the hotsync?
Addresses or contacts are not being hotsynced anymore? Are those details still stored on your computer? can you access them or read them on your computer, if they have been removed from the computer, it obviously will not sync anything in that department.

Have you looked into the conduit settings? Is the hotsync sycning the contacts from the computer to the pda or the other way around?

Welcome to Fixya

Sounds like the problem is the LCd screen already. Have you tried doing a hard reset to your palm? The data in your palm can only be transferred using Hotsync. Try uninstall/install the software again to the new computer. May i know the Windows OS of the new computer and what is the model of your Palm.

Thank you for using FIxya!

My palm pilot battery died. When i replaced the battery all mhy phone #'s and calendar. were gone. Is there a way to restore them?

Hello.

Unfortunately, the only way to restore the address info and calendar is if you have been backing up your info from your Palm to your computer. Use the bluetooth (if you have) or connect the cradle to hotsync and transfer all your info back to your Palm.

Hope this helps.

Hot sync

http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,kb=PalmSupportKB,t=ooccase,case=obj(2630)

With your Palm Zire 21 connected to your pc, go to the link above and run through the Palm HotSync troubleshooting dialog to see if any results come up that will solve your issue.

HotSync issues are unfortunately difficult to pinpoint and often will require a software update or patch to resolve issues.

Good luck with it!

Touchpad won't work.

Use a small torx or if none available, a small screwdriver to gently remove the two screws on the back of the unit. Gently pry the sides away from the back. Open the unit carefully. Remove the two screws securing the system board to the back of the Zire. Gently open( like a book) the boards and screens. Once I did that I turned the Zire on using the switch that is only a small bump on the sytem board. After a gentle tap pr two the touchpad bagan working again. Carefully reassemble the unit and hope it lasts another while. Just in case, do a Hotsync so that your data is saved should this "adjustment" fail to solve your problem.

Lost data on palm zire 21 hand held

To the best of my knowledge, if you don't have a pc backup, you are out of luck.... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... Download the Palm Desktop Software and start to use it if you decide to continue using the Zire 21. The Software is free from Palm.
