Samsung Plasma HP-R4272 -- 4yrs. old. 3x10 inch black spot has appeared on top left corner of screen. Looks like a big ink blob. Appears in all sources. Rest of picture is distorted in color and stridation. Wish there was a way for me to post picture here for you to see. As far as I know, nothing hit screen BUT I have kids so who knows...
Do you know what could be problem? Is it worth trying to fix or am I better off to replace set altogether?

some of these panels were mis-calibrated from the factory after not aging long enough. Let the TV run for atleast 2 hours and adjust the Vs and Vscan voltages. When it is blue in the left I have found generally the Vs is about 10 volts too high.

You would need to have a technician remove the back of the TV and make the adjustment. There are 2 small adjusters that they change to adjust the voltage.

All I can say is when you watch T.V. the plasmas run off of plasma gas and when you leave something on for so long it burns in the screen. I have the same T.V. and when watching like the weather channel it leaves lines but they go away. If yours are permanent then you can't do anything, but it may help if you go on your remote and go to "menu" then look for "setup" and scroll down with the arrows on your remote. Look for "screen burn protection" and select "white screen". This will make your whole screen white and it may take out the lines. If you let it sit white it won't hurt it. All one color won't hurt, the only thing that hurts is like bright white lines in front of a dark background. Just give your T.V. a break from time to time ESPECIALLY ON VIDEO GAMES. T.V. shows that are HD usually have their channel icons that move or are very dim and they won't hurt. Just go to what I told you and let it sit about 20 minutes, if that doesn't help, then the T.V. you have i believe comes with a 2-year standard warranty and if it's under warranty take it back if you have the reciept. If no reciept then call 1-800-SAMSUNG.

check the power inverter on the power strip. also check the caps on the board and if any of those caps have a round top it is bad and needs to be replaced. i hope this helps.

Sounds like an X or Y drive board. They are the heart beat for driving the plasma display. Without them both you won't see anything.
