I recently purchased an Acer TravelMate 2500 from an auction site that my father runs. The harddrive was formatted, and I had to do a fresh XP install. I have downloaded the drivers, but I can't get the standby/sleep/hibernate function to work. Any suggestions on fixing this issue?
The stand by button is greyed out when A) your computer is too old to support the
Advanced Control Power Interface (ACPI) or B) ACPI is not configured properly.
Start->Control Panel->System->Hardware tab->Device Manager button. Do any of the
items have a red 'X' or a yellow '!' beside them?
The yellow exclamation mark provides an indication of a device's current status and could mean that there is a system resource conflict, a driver issue, or any number of other things.
The yellow mark itself doesn't give you any valuable information but what it does do is confirm that a Device Manager error code has been generated. To fix whatever problem is going on, you'll need to view this code and troubleshoot accordingly.
To view the Device Manager error code that was generated for this piece of hardware, you'll need to view the device's status in Device Manager.

yes, the SM Bus Controller has a yellow '!' beside it.
I've fixed the problem with the yellow exclamation mark. I've updated all of my drivers, but the standby function still doesn't work. Do you have any other suggestions?
