My Whirlpool Duet washer will not start. I keep getting a "dl" and an "f" signal. I assume it means door lock failure. I've tried unplugging and opening and shutting the door before restarting but it won't start.

It is indeed a door lock failure. Replace the door lock/latch assembly (part number 8181700) to solve the problem.

Disconnect power to the washer and open the door. Remove the door gasket retaining hoop by stretching apart the retaining spring at the bottom of the door opening.

Gently peel the part of the door gasket near the door lock/latch assembly off the lip of the right side of the door opening. Remove enough of the door gasket to access the door lock/latch assembly behind the front panel.

Remove the three screws securing the door lock/latch assembly to the front panel and slightly lift it then pull it back off the front panel.

Pull the door lock/latch assembly out of the washer and disconnect the wiring harness.

Connect the wiring harness to the new door lock/latch assembly and install it back in place behind the front panel.

Secure the door lock/latch assembly and put the eased part of the door gasket back into position over the lip of the door opening.

Check that the door gasket is properly seated before putting back and securing the retaining hoop around the lip of the door opening and the door gasket.

SOURCE: whirlpool duet washer code

Hi Keitha1

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber

You want to know what code dL means on a whirklpool duet washer.

This is what works for me 99% of the time:
Simply unplug the washer for ten minutes. The onboard computer will reset and work like new.
Please understand that you are not being shortchanged. There are hundreds of codes and with this new computer tech. they mostly require a repareman. To save you money the manufacturer has designed it to reset itself after ten minutes to solve most problems. Try this first, you can always call a local pro later if you want.

SOURCE: flashing codes

you have a communication problem between your door lock and your ccu board. Are you hearing a click click click before it fails? If so this is a relay inside your ccu board. Replace the board this will solve your problem

SOURCE: Whirlpool Duet frontloader, washer won't start dL

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error "dlf" or F dl means a door latch failure. This means that you'll need to replace the door latch assembly however before doing that you can leave the washer unplugged for 30minutes so that it resets itself. In the meantime when it's unplugged just inspect the door latch wiring to ensure all the connector plugs are intact and not loose or broken. You can access the door latch wiring harness by removing the top panel of the washer. To remove the top panel just remove the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, and then lift off. Locate the door latch assembly behind the front panel on the right hand side. Trace all the connectors from the door latch to the Central Control Unit (CCU) and make sure they are properly seated at both ends. If after doing this still the issue is not resolved then unfortunately you have to get the door latch replaced. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

Whirlpool GHW9400 Door will not latch. Washer turns on, Starts clicking then flashes dL F

Hi, DL means Door Lock Failure while F is either (F80, 82,
84, 85).....

DL flashes if the following conditions occur:
  • Door lid is not closed completely due to interference.
  • Wash media buildup is preventing the lock bolt from extending.
  • Machine/motor control detects open door lid switch when attempting to lock.
  • Machine/motor control cannot determine if door lid is in a locked state.

The door on my whirlpool duet washer won't lock

Sounds like door switch is bad. Look at inside front panel of door, get model number, search on internet for "error codes" with that model number. It should show "DL" door lock defective, not secured, failure. One sure way (in most cases) is to push in on door and hold it firmly closed,it is works, bad door switch. To replace, order new switch, take the whole front panel (front assembly including door) off, switch on back side of panel. DO NOT TAKE DOOR HINGE LOOSE. Replace switch. By the way, before taking apart, UNPLUG FROM WALL.

F dL symbol on Whirlpool duet HT

It is saying there is a problem with your door Lock. when you close the door does it hold like it use too? try to open and close the door if it doesn't really close properly then you will just need a door latch. If the machine gives you an f11 code then its the main computer board that can also give your the door lock error. I would check the door first though.
