When I hook my tv up to my desktop computer the screen looks like it is going to work (it says dell then the loading bar fills up) as a monitor until it is time for my log in screen to come up. The screen then turns blue and says no signal. Do i need a specific vga cable? what can I do to use my tv as a computer monitor as well?

Hi,
This is normally due to a frequency or resolution incompatibility. Turn on your desktop computer, then change the screen resolution to 800x600 or 1024x768. Save the settings. Reboot to check that it is indeed saved.
Once you boot up on your TV, it should display fine. Gradually increase the resolution and colors to the max your TV can handle.

I used a VGA to TV Converter cable but I am not getting nothing at all on my tv

Go to your start menu, then go to control panel > display ( or appearance and personalization ) > go to your search bar > type in "monitor". you should see one that says "how to set up multiple monitors, click on that. If you see two monitor screens on the next screen that means your computer knows its hooked up to a tv, you may need to check the box "extend this desktop on monitor". If that doesnt work then you can try to use the trouble shooting option if that helps.

Hope this helped.

The image leaves about 2.5 inches not used on each side of the monitor.

Hello,

The bands are caused by the monitor displaying a picture that is not the correct resolution. This model has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 according to LG - see http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/product/124873/review/w2353vpf.html#specs When you have your video card set to a different resolution that this the monitor tries to adjust the display to best fit the screen. The native or default resolution is 16:9 or wide-screen and if you have the video card displaying at 4:3 then you will have the blank bars displayed. Go to display properties and change your resolution to one that is 16:9 ratio and the bars should fill out.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

I have a Dell Desktop , bought a cable to hook it up with my tv, also using a hd15 vga splitter, when I hook the wire going to the tv my computer monitor says cannot display video mode 1280by1200...

You just need to lower the screen resolution thats all.

You don't need a TV tuner card but you do need to adjust settings for your graphics card.

If its NVIDIA then use the DUALVIEW For ATI there is a similar thing but I don't use ATI so you would have to figure that one out yourself.

My computer won't stay connected to the TV... I hook everything up properly....plug in the VGA cable, turn the TV on then the computer then I switch the TV to VGA mode. The computer will be on the TV...

Connect your computer to a normal monitor. Try adjusting the screen resolution setting to a lower setting.
to adjust the monitors resolution. Right click on the desktop in an open area not on a icon.> select properties or personalize. depending on the operating system> then click on the settings tab on top> under the screen resolution you will find a slider bar. > try sliding it over to the left a couple notches. This should resolve the issue!

Are Dell monitors not compatible with older HP Pavilion Computer? I tried to connect my HP CPU to a Dell monitor and it will not recognize it at all.

It shouldn't make any difference which monitor you are connecting to any computer. In fact, I am running a 19" HP Flat Panel on my Dell Dimension 2400 right now. It is NOT a wide screen monitor as the Dell built in graphics card will not support the RESOLUTION RATIO required for the wide screen. Check what setting is "native resolution" for your monitor and see if your graphics card will support it. If not, using your old monitor, try different resolution settings. Right click on your desk top, click on properties and that should bring up the display properties box. Try a lower setting as larger settings are the ones that will give you a black screen. It will probably give you a smaller picture on your old monitor, or perhaps smaller or larger icons on the desk top. Accept the new settings, turn off your computer and switch monitors, and turn your computer back on. If you get a picture, but it does not fill the whole screen or the icons seem too large or small, then go back into properties from the desktop and try a different resolution ratio until the picture seems correct.

I am trying to hook up my dell xps all in one to my sony tv. the tv has a rgb pc hook up but my computer dosent

Judging by the TV with a RGB hookup, I'm sure that it has S-video. So does that motherboard...
Hook it up using S -video (cheap at WalMart), then go to Display properties.
Choose Advanced, then the Intel Chipset.
Choose the TV as the Primary and your TV will become your monitor

Dell monitor black screen

If you have another monitor for desktop hook other monitor up then under hardware and software in control panel, add the dell monitor, then hook it up. Some operating systems need the driver to be added first. My brother almost threw away agood dell lcd monitor before I told him this, now he loves the lcd, works great.

15" Dell monitor

You have your video card set to rotate the screen after Windows loads.

Go into your display properties using it's control panel and look for the rotate section. Set it back to 0 degrees. Make sure you click apply and then OK, not just OK.
