My proview 558 monitor has a 1/2 inch black line at the bottom

My proview 558, model 568, monitor has a 1/2 inch black line at the bottom and under that is about a 1/4 inch of what should be at the top of the screen. The top of the screen saver picture is visable along with the top of the desktop icons, ect. at the bottom of the screen. Please help? Or do I just need a new one? It was manufactured in September of 2002.

Hi! Well the pc is newer than the monitor. I just bought a "new and improved" refurbished pc tower. Mine crashed hard around Christmas. It was purchased in 2005, but was built in 1998. So I figured it lasted a good long time. This one is a 2009 that was used in a school. And I had a tech go through it before I hooked it up. Maybe it should go back for a 30 day check up?

ms_biguns, Lifespan of 8 - 10 yrs is very good. This symptom falls into my catagory of "when strange and weird things" start to appear on lcd screen, I would first suspect and investigate the unit's ac to dc "switch-mode-power-supply" to see if it has developed an out-of-specification condition, (voltage, noise). My suggestion to you is take easy way out. Trade it in for new wide screen. If 558/m568 acts same if connected to different KNOWN GOOD pc then you will need to have a technician repair or trade up for new. 12fixlouie

Ms_biguns, You need to test one or the other, The tower should output and drive a substitute known good monitor, or a known good pc should be able to display the WIN-desktop screen on your Proview 558. Could it also be that the software in pc not set up for driving a Proview558? 12fixlouie

Monitor frequently changes into a series of black and white stripes.

The video board inside that connect this to you vid card is going bad and will need replacment. There is not really much you can do troubleshooting this. Thanks and good luck

Proview monitor won't keep the screen on

bzinbby1, Hi, I think I know what's wrong. In fact I already know what's wrong! But I want you to do one test to let me know how bad it really is! Here is the test. I want you to reconnect your Proview to an already fully booted "KNOWN GOOD" pc with WIN DESKTOP showing. Then and only then power up the Proview and hold a good, bright flashlight 2 inches from the lcd screen after the screen goes to BLACK! Even though the screen appears BLACK, can you still see the WIN Desktop if you hold the flashlight at different angles???? Get back to me with results of test. I will then tell you what options are open to you as a consumer whose screen is now dark and lifeless. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel@ aol.com

I recently bought a prowiew monitor from a friend, and would like to know how to get sound from the built in speakers.

Proview monitors with built in speakers have a jack on the bottom for an 1/8 inch stereo audio cable connection to the sound card.
