How to Get WiFi for DS

Depending on which DS you purchase, you can use the console's Wi-Fi settings to play games against other players around the world or download additional content. The Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi allows for gamers to compete with one another as long as the game being played supports these connections. The DSi features a built-in web browser as well as a store where entire games can be purchased and downloaded. In order to access these features on either console, games must first locate and connect to a wireless access point.
Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need

  • Nintendo DS or DSi
  1. Connecting with a DS or DS Lite
    • 1 Insert a game cartridge into your DS and power it on. Begin the game, and on the main menu, choose the option for setting up a Wi-Fi connection. The location of this option differs in each game, so check your game's manual for where to find this option.
    • 2 Choose "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings" from the setup screen and press "A" to select this option. Choose one of the connection spaces to use for this location. You can save up to three locations at a time.
    • 3 Select "Search for an Access Point" and press "A". On the next screen, choose the blue padlock. This is an open connection. Selecting it will connect your DS to this wireless connection.
    • 4 Return to the main menu of your game by pressing "B". You can now play games over the Wi-Fi connection.
    Connecting with a DSi
    • 1 Power on your DSi and wait until the main menu opens up. Once on the main menu, scroll until you see the "Settings" tab, which is illustrated by a wrench. Tap on it to open the menu.
    • 2 Click the right arrow until you reach the third page of the System Settings menu. On this page, select the last option, which is labeled as "Internet". Select "Connection Settings" from the next menu. This item will have an image of the DSi to the right of the option.
    • 3 Choose one of the connection boxes to set up a new Wi-Fi connection. These will have the word "None" listed. You can have up to three saved connections on the DSi at any given time.
    • 4 Tap the top box on the Connection page. This will automatically search out a wireless access point for you to use on your DSi. Choose an access point with an unlocked icon; these connections do not require an administrator password to access.
    • 5 The DSi will test the connection, after which you'll be able to play games online, download new content or browse the Internet.
Tips & Warnings
  • Not all DS games can be played online. Check the back of the game's box to see if it supports a Nintendo Wi-Fi connection
  • The Nintendo DS cannot connect to secure networks. The DSi requires a password from the administrator to connect to these networks.

I'm trying to play the new Pokemon Black but I want the free promotional Victini and it says I gotta have Wifi and I'm like "Ok..." And I try to connect it to my houses Wifi but this comes up!...

Hey darthbunnyva!

The reason you need a wi-fi to redeem your pokemon is for Nintendo to be able tu check that every code is unique and people are not cheating the system and getting the pokemons they don't own.

To set up your Nintendo DS for online use just follow these official nintendo guides for configuring your wi-fi

Hope this helped!

How do you get wi-fi

http://ds.about.com/od/nintendods101/ht/settingupdsiwifi.htm

If you go to this website above it shows you step by step what to do.

Turn on the Nintendo DSi
Click on the wrench icon to access "System Settings."
Select "Internet" on the third page of System Settings.
Select "Connection Settings" and tap the "None" bar in "Connection 1."
You have the option of setting up a connection manually, or searching for available connections in the area. You may also access your Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector, if you have one (the product has been discontinued). The easiest thing to do is select "Search for an Access Point."
Your Nintendo DSi will list the names of any wireless access points in range. A gold, unlocked icon next to the connection's name signifies an unlocked WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) connection that can be accessed immediately. A locked gold icon signifies an encrypted WEP connection that requires a WEP key (password).
If you are accessing a locked/encrypted connection, enter your WEP key. You may also click "Change Security Settings" to enter a WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) key.
If your WEP key is correct, your Nintendo DSi should connect. You can test your connection to verify.
You're set! Now you can surf the Internet, purchase games and add-ons in the Nintendo DSi Shop, and play games that allow wireless access and competition (with WEP connections, only).
Tips:
If you need help with your router settings, visit Nintendo's router FAQ
Most Nintendo DS and DSi owners can get online by searching for an access point, but some might have to resort to manual setup. Visit Nintendo's manual setup guide if you have a unique situation and need help.
The Nintendo DSi can go online with a WPA connection, but actually playing DSi games online requires a WEP connection.
What You Need:
A Nintendo DSi
A broadband internet connection, such as cable, DSL or FIOS
A wireless router
A Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector (optional)

Web setup

With a Wi-Fi compatible game inserted into your Nintendo DS, access the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings screen. Your game manual provides information on how to do this for the game you are playing.
  1. Tap Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings
  2. Tap one of the Connection slots
  3. Tap "Search For An Access Point"

The Nintendo DS will then display the name of your wireless access point.
If your Access Point has a blue, unlocked icon, tap the Access Point name, and then 'OK.' The Nintendo DS will then establish a connection with your router. Back out to the main screen of your game and your ready to play online.

If your Access Point has a red, locked icon, the Nintendo DS has detected WEP key security on your router. Tap the Access Point name on the Nintendo DS and then enter the WEP key for your router on the following screen and tap 'OK' to save the settings.

Tap 'OK' again and the Nintendo DS will then establish a connection with your router. Back out to the main screen of your game and your ready to play online.

If your Access Point has a gray, locked icon, the Nintendo DS has determined your router's security settings are not supported by the Nintendo DS. In order to connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, you will need to either switch to WEP security, or remove the security setting of your router when connecting with the Nintendo DS.
