Whirlpool RB270PXK1 dual ''wall'' oven in kitchen. In the upper oven, the main bake element (bottom element of upper oven) caught fire and physically broke. Scary. Anyhow, have new element installed but no heat from it. The broil element in the upper oven comes on and the bottom oven works fine so there is 220V to the unit. Guessing the element somehow took out the control as well? Internal fuse for each element? Before I start pulling it out of the cabinetry - thought I'd ask...
Usually no internal fuses, and most of the time the controller is rated for fault interupt current.... age will degrade them though...
How did you change the element without pulling out the stove? is it a 'click/plug' in? might be that the socket is messed up...
You should not have to disassemble the cabinet, should just be a few screws and the unit slides out... sometimes hidden behind small movable pannels..
Peace

Thanks johnsqured2. Element is easy replacement. 2 sheet metal screws hold it to back of oven and then just two spade terminals for electrical connect. Wires look fine, no sign of insulation getting hot or any corrosion. My theory is the element degraded and drew enough current to catch fire and then "open" but in the process, took out a controller. Thermostat works as far as cutting in/out since the broil element will sort of heat the oven eventually. Made very uneven muffins but did work... Not familiar with Whirlpools "percentage bake switch" which maybe is some kind of current split between the broil and bake elements?
