Worked Off & On if you wiggled the door or

About a year after I purchased it, started turning off intermittently. I could jiggle the handle or push gently on the front door and it would start again. This gradually got worse and worse until it stopped working all together. I have checked the plug which works fine when you plug other things into it. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with it or who you call to fix a microwave? Thanks! Yes I have same problem with the microwave working intermittently if you wiggle the door.

It sounds like the sensor for the door has a problem.

The microwave will not operate if the door isn't securely closed, and if the it detects the door as being open (even if it is really closed) the microwave will not allow the cook cycle to go on.

But I would recommend taking it anywhere BUT Best Buy! Try finding a local home-appliance-only repair center. www.MyApplianceService.com is a good place to start.

Door handle broke on my Maytag MMV4205AAQ microwave. It broke once before while under the first year warranty so I know that repair requires replacing the whole door.If I purchase the part (PS909599), how...

Hi ,

There is a inner door trim on the inside of the microwave door that can come off to expose the screws for the handle. This trim is held in place by clips built into the trim, ( some older models may also have screws - look for them and remove before going any further ) the tabs on this trim can break easily but with a putty knife and some patience, the trim can be removed to get at the handle screws. See picture help. This trim can be pushed so the clips will "pop" back into place after the handle repair.

Oven turns itself on

THE DOOR HAS A SAFETY SWITCH THAT SHUTS THE UNIT OFF WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED KEEPING YOU FROM GETTING "ZAPPED WITH RADIATION" ACTUALLY ITS JUST RADIO WAVES, ANYWAY THE JIGGLING OF THE HANDLE TO START IT IS WHATS HAPPENING THERE. IT COMING ON IS JUST A SHORT IN THE SWITCH THAT MAY BE FROM AN ALREADY SET TIME, OR ITS JUST MAKING CONTACT WHERE ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO. ANYWAY YOU NEED A NEW DOOR SWITCH.

Broken handle on maytag stainless steel microwave. Do not wish to purchase complete door assy. Could possibly substitute a black handle. Model MMV5165BAS. Kindly advise

around the inner side of the door between the window and outer frame is a plastic shroud,by gentle prying it out using a flatblade screwdriver starting at the handle side working toward the hinge side it will pop off and the screws that hold the handle can be accessed and remove and replace the handle. to reinstall that shroud gentle push it in with your fingers
you can go to searspartsdirect and enter in your model number exactly as found in the mw cavity and order the part or perhaps look in your phone and find a appliance parts dist. in your area

Microwave will not run unless i jiggle the handle.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here onFixYa:.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

I have a GE Profile Microwave and the handle is broken....

I have the same issue. The Handle broke off my GE Microwave Oven (Model JVM1190SY 001). GE does not sell the handle seperately from what I can tell. I just ordered a new door. It's rediculously expensive. I tried to replace the handle with a nice drawer pull but couldn't find a size pull to match and I broke the plastic cover trying to get access to the screws for the handle, which is why I decided to buy the new door. Hopefully installation is not that difficult. This oven was manufactured in 2001, seems the handles have a 7 year life span.

Worked Off & On if you wiggled the door or

There is a internal locking mechanisim that has 2 or more switches that is usually attached with two or more screws next to the door latch side. Crack open the micro and adjust this by shutting the door then pushing this assy toward the latches untill all the switches look like they are being pushed in fully. If this doesn't solve the problem one of the switches or possibly more are defective. Call a local appliance repair center and get a switch there called micro switches.
