Can't get the scanner to work

I have a cannon 4400 f , and everytime i tried to use I got a error message saying. cannot comunicate with scanner.
cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off.
check status .
scanner driver will be closed.
than a message from canonscan toolbox .
Unable to open TWAIN source
please connection
then re-start toolbox.

I have tried everything from connectiosn till re install and nothing solved the problem .
Can you help me?

    Thanks very much for your answer , but I think it has nothing to do with the problem. My scanner with the same cable works in my other two desk top.. the problem occurs only when I try to use connected with my lap top( dell) ....

    My scanner worked fine until yesterday. Now it will preview but stops working when I press "SCAN". Any help will be appreciated.

Regarding the Cannon scanner error 2145,50. The MG5220 does this also. The actual problem is that the scanner will not communicate with the computer correctly if it is connected through a USB hub. A direct connection to the computer cures it, for me at least.

Get what you need from Canon.com. If Cannon does not make a driver for your model and 7, then time to upgrade the printer. Apparently rules on printers and scanners have changed and some units will not work with the current standards.

The driver is on the cd that came with your scanner. If you do not have the cd then you should be able to download it from Cannon's website.

Cannon capture perfect 3.0
Check the location where you are directing the scanner/computer to store the scanned image. If it is full, obviously it cant store. Change the location where there is space.

Error message
What is your operating system?

If XP, check your device manager to see if the scanner is being recognized by XP.

What is your scanning software?
Try to use another scan program ( a free demo version should work fine.)

Are you using TWAIN or an ISIS driver? If it is a TWAIN driver, then any Photo editing program should be able to connect ( usuallly!?).
