Our dryer is making LOTS of noise. It is about 20 years old and has worked wonderfully. Any ideas? A few weeks ago it started squeaking loudly but that has now stopped.

Hi,
Here is a tip that I wrote about dryers and noises...
It will help you determine what is happening there...
good for you a fixya girl. usually, the idler pulley fails. and is a gravy cheap fix. these are great dryer and worth throwing a few bucks at. spin all the pullies and a new belt is a good idea,
do NOT use WD40 in a dryer. WD-40 has considerable flammability ingredients. the rotor is most likely the blower . check the wheel and the motor. could be loose or have something in it... if you want to lubricant.. use a high temp lubricant made for dryers..
if it is coming from under your unit is it most likely the water inlet valve for the icemaker check that and let me know you will have to remve the 2 screw on the kick plate to get to it,it should be on the left side
