It has gone faulty, this is not normal behavior. You will have to replace it. Check the button on the front, ensure it isn't jammed on?

if this fails to fix the problem

It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it

My hp d330 desktop will not read any discs it will open and close but thats it, what can i do to fix this problem

Well first of all depending on the type of media you are using can be a problem. If you are trying to read a DVD and you only have a CD reader that would be a problem. Now if it wont read any. You will need to replace it with a new cd/dvd rom.

Hp xw8400 drive door wont open after it reads a

Straighten a paper clip and push it inside the small hole just above the open/close button while you press the button. You'll need to apply some force. This is usually caused when the gear inside the cd/dvd rom is not working properly or damaged. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.
