Mr. Heater Natural Gas Garage Heater - 45,000 BTU Logo

Mr. Heater Big Maxx 75,000 BTU Heater will not ignite. Manufacturer says it's possibly a faulty chipboard. After replacing the chipboard with a new unit shipped from the manufacturer the unit still will not fire. Gas lines have been bled and everything has been checked and double checked for correct hookup, etc! Any suggestions???

It is a brand new unit, thermostat, etc...in fact I've already exchanged one back with this identical problem and the new one has the same identical problem, which is starting to make me think I may have a problem on my end. although I have heard stories about people going through 3-4 chipboards from this company until one finally works. The fan will kick on initially and after about 30-40 seconds it will try ignition. I can see the ignitor lighting.

The light is blinking as normal as it is calling for heat. It will try to ignite 3 times and then go into a shutoff mode and the light will blink twice indicating as such. I smell no gas being emitted during this process. Of course if I take off the drip I get a constant stream of NG coming out. I double checked all of the gas piping for obstructions and none are present. To me it seems gas is simply not being allowed into the unit or the pressure is incorrect!

I'm using a Honeywell programmable thermostat and have no regulator on the gasline as I was told one wasn't required! THANKS

Perhaps it is as simple as cleaning the Electrode Sensor usually at the opposite end as the Electrode igniter. It will be a single ceramic unit with a 90 degree bend on the end. It works like a thermocoupling and if has failed it will tell the heater yo shut down. DON'T touch the end with your hands (it will shorten it's life) just wipe it clean with clean steelwool. For parts call 1800-251-0001 and follow the promps. They are in Ontario.. In Manitoba I called ABC Power Tools AT 1-204-224-1760 their are in Winnipeg. hope this helps. I just order a the Electrode igniter and hpoe that is what I need. My igniter only archs whenI fire it with a torch .

MY Circuit board blinking code is 2 blinks and won't fire. It could be my thermostat. I set it at 35 degrees and it heats up to 50 to 60 degrees F

Is the circuit board giving you a blinking error code?
On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the igniter does not energize (bad control, bad igniter), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not light (dirty pilot), the burner does not light (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

this will help. I am changing the igniter first. Then I will by-pass the thermostat and that is not the problem I guess I will be looking for a control board.

Have Big Max shop heater 75,000 btu new install won't light

If the Big Max shop heater 75,000 BTU won't light, there are several things that you can check:
  1. Make sure that the propane tank is full and properly connected to the heater. Check for any leaks in the gas line.
  2. Check the pressure regulator to ensure that it is working properly.
  3. Check the igniter to ensure that it is sparking properly. If not, clean or replace it as needed.
  4. Check the gas valve to ensure that it is opening properly when it receives the 24-volt signal. If not, replace it with a new one.
  5. Check the thermocouple to ensure that it is functioning properly. If it is not, it may be preventing the gas valve from opening.
If you have already replaced the gas valve and the problem persists, you may want to consider contacting a professional technician for further diagnosis and repair.
