Whirlpool microwave surface light does not work despite replacing the bulbs. I suspect that a previous renter's cat was fascinated w the on /off switch and burned it out. The light switch operates and the...

I am suspecting that your microwave has cheap chinese relays inside and instead of plating the part where electricity goes through with a high temperature metal that is a thick enough coating they used a cheaper metal. When they do that a relay arcs an spot welds itself open or closed. A strong tap on the control board (once taken apart) will release it. I advise to have a look at the control board for overheating, or burnt circuit board traces as well.

I have a frigidaire Electrolux gallery series glmv168cqi microwave. The timer counts down, but the oven doesn't turn on. Sometimes when you open the door the fan turns on.

That would be a failing bottom door switch, or its mount.
My help file on door switches is here:
http://031d26d.namesecurehost.com/mwd/doorsw.txt
There's a video here showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Once the control panel has been removed, you can access the door switches for testing and possible replacement.
There should be a technical manual hidden behind the controller or grille, too.

My Electrolux microwave model E30mh65gps only has on spot to mount it to the cabinet.

Contact your manufacturer or dealer where you purchased the unit. You should be able to purchase mounting brackets to fit almost any design or install situation for safety and liability reasons.

The White enamel/paint in the interior of the microwave, by the base & back wall seem has peeled off - about 2 inches. I see unpainted metal & I am concerned. How do you fix this problem and is it...

The area will first have to be sanded smooth and cleaned and dried thoroughly.

If the cavity metal of the oven is cracked or split, you can use a small amount of steel-based epoxy such as JB-WELD to patch the crack or hole.

Once that dries thoroughly, you can sand it very smooth.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

Microwave door sags

I had the same problem. An easy fix is to remove the door by opening the door, take a screwdriver and pop the plastic retainer piece from just below top hinge on the door. Now lift the door gently and it will come off in your hands. Set aside and be careful not to let the loss bracket that passes into the microwave body fall back into the cabinet. I would suggest you use a small vice grip locked onto that bracket to keep from lossing it inside. You will see two holes, one near the top and bottom through the cabinet into the hinge. line these holes up with the hinge holes behind them and use a pop rivet gun and 3/16" rivets to lock into place. Then replace the door and retainer piece. If you only have 1/8" rivets you can hold the bracket lined up with the original holes and drill 1/8" holes of your own a little distance away from the original holes and then pop rivet through these holes.

Frigidaire microwave door fallen off

I had the same problem. I removed the door and used a rivet tool. I checked to make sure the door cleared the rivet head, which was nearly flat, so there would not be any microwave leakage.

When i use my oven there is an arc from the door to the body in about 7 different spots. sometimes it is enough to weld the door shut. What can i do it is only about two years old.

The basis of the claim "you cannot put anything made of metal in a microwave" is based on the fact that metal:
a) reflects microwaves;
b) it will acquired a electrical charge that can arch to the grounded chassis.

Somehow, your door is no longer grounded to the chassis and so, gets a charge that arches to the chassis. Check the door for conductivity to the chassis and ground to the chassis any part of it that is currently insulated.

If we close the mircowave door the units start to run by itself. - it will not heat, but the light comes on and the turntable rotates it will not stop until we turn the power off - when power is turned...

i think you have a welded controller, either a digital one or a mechanical one. microwave won't run unless you switch it to run. the door switches are safety switches to turn off the microwave once you open the door. if you have a digital controller, you could have a welded relay, if you have a mechanical timer, it could be a welded contact at the timer. another thing is that it should heat what ever you are heating. if it is not heating, check if it has a fuse and if it is busted. some fuse are installed to protect only the magnetron that is why the light and turn table are still running. if there is no fuse to the magnetron, then check the diode from the capacitor to the ground. it could be open. if not then you can have a bad magnetron. i hope i was able to help.
