Question about Metra Ford F 150 Truck 1996 Up

1 Answer

Not starting I have an 1996 Ford F-150. The motor will not start. I have good plugs, new coil, and gas in the tank. The starter will allow it to turn over but it will not start. What other parts should I replace or look at in order to evaluate what the problem might be? The truck was running just fine then just shut off...like it doesn't have gas or something...

Starts but wont run after ignition switch is returned to the run position from the start position.

The problem is that when you have the switch in the START position, you are getting power to the ignition system, but not when in the RUN position. Most likely causes are a bad ignition switch, a faulty aftermarket alarm system [if it has one] or a bad ballest resistor wire going to the ignition coil's + terminal. You need to break out your test light and start checking to see where the fault lies.

You will need to determine if you are lacking spark or fuel when the engine is warmed up and fails to start. It could be the coil, ignition module, a relay, or various other components.

Motor turns over but wont start. has gas, no bad fuses

Do the spark plugs have spark?
Also check the condition of the air filter.

Is the vehicle fitted with an immobilizer?

Ford f-150 will crank but not start sounds like it wants to turn over. can hear full pump hum. new starter, new battery,. if i hit the gas pedel a lil while starting truck it will keep running but runs...

I had the same problem but I did two fixes for it (1) when I bought the truck several years ago the duel tank switch was pushed in but i never fixed it and just would switch tanks with the switch pushed into the dash. after awhile it acted like it didn't know what tank to draw from point is i finally replaced the switch and it ran, but still ran rough, (2) on the left side of the motor their is an EGR valve (it was green colored vacum hose) I replaced that vacum hose and now it runs great.

89 f-150 turns over just wont start

If the only evidence of trying to start was when u used starter fluid, it's probably a fuel issue. After attempting to start several times, pull a plug and check for gas/wet plug. If there is no evidence of gas reaching the plug, it's probably the fuel pump. Change the fuel filter too.
