Banging noise comming from back of washer near the belt

I have a GE WHDSR316G1WW top loading washer and the drain hose located on the upper left rear of the plastic outer tub came loose. It sounded like a worn seal or bearing because it was banging so loud. I removed the control panel, top panel and front panel, reattached the drain hose into the housing hole and the problem was solved. Saved $80 service call.

My GE whdsr316g1ww will freezes during the 'Cottons' cycle

please see the next step and use the common sense: God bless you
Lid Switch
This is the most common reason for the washer not spinning or agitating. This is easy to check. You will need to remove the switch, this varies with model type but the testing will be the same. When the lid is closed the switch should have continuity when the lid is opend the switch should have no continuity. If it differs replace the Lid Switch.

Timer
To check the timer you will need to refer to the wiring diagram or disassemble to access the motor. Check the leads from the timer to the motor when turned to a wash cycle this should have 120 volts. If not replace the Timer, if it does the timer is not the problem.

Motor
To check the motor you will need to disassemble the washer to access the motor. First you can check the motor windings, to do this remove the plug and connect ohmeter to terminals. Refer to the tech sheet or service manual for the proper reading. Check motor for shorts by connecting ohmeter to terminals and motor housing should have no continuity. Connect voltmeter to motor wire connector and check for voltage. You should have 120 volts, if you do and the motor does not run replace the motor. If it does not have power the problem is elsewhere.

Belt
If your washer is a belt drive type make sure the belt is tight. Check for black soot from belt wear. Replace if it has excessive wear or broke.

Motor Coupler
This is a fairly common problem with direct drive machines but inexpensive and easy to replace. The Motor Coupler transfers power from the motor to the transmission. The following video will walk you through the replacement of the Motor Coupler.

Transmission
The transmission does not usually fail. To check this on a direct drive remove the motor and then turn tub inside. If it spins freely with no noise the problem is elsewhere. If it is noisy it needs replacing this is expensive and depending on the age of your machine you may not want to replace it. On a belt drive remove the belts and spin tub

I have a GE washer WHDSR316G1WW and I cannot get a new belt installed. How do you install the new belt? It barely fits around the large pulley.

You are correct in that the belt seems overly tight. This is what I did.1) Get the belt on the large pully2) Using several ZIpTies every few inches, secure the belt to the pully3) Get a metal hanger and loop it through the belt making a safe handle at the end.4 Cover the handle with a cloth to protect your hands and to also provide grip.5) Have my 300 lb, 6'7" hulk of a son pull as hard as he can while you assist getting the belt on the motor spindle.

My washer won't agitate or spin! I hav a GE washer model # whdsr316g1ww

Might be a blown line fuse located in the red and white wire in the harness, you will know it if the green idiot light on the motor ain't a blinkin.

Got questions? I will be here all week.

I have a ge washer model whdsr316g1ww. the belt seems too small cannot get it around pully. ge said i have the right belt.please help!!

Have you loosened the motor mounts to help swing the motor closer to the pulley? If you have is something blocking the motor moving further?

Some belts can be a bit tight to get on so hook it up on the motor pulley first and then get one side on to the main spider pulley and then turn the main spider pulley to thread the belt on. Providing the belt was in its original grooves on the motor pulley as you turn the spider to get the belt on it will cetre itself. Then tension the belt by pulling on the motor and tighten the bolts. DON'T OVER TENSION THE BELT AS IT CAN SNAP IT OR THE SPIDER PULLEY!

I have a GE washer machine model#WHDSR316G1WW. It will fill and pump out, but not agitate or spin. It is a belt drive, the belt is fine and the lid switch gets cont.I tested power at the pins to the motor,I...

Maybe of some help, it sounds like a motor, but there are a few things you can check..... From the plug in end on the neutral side to the motor there is a fuseable link, check it is still good... There is a procedure that you leave unit unplugged for 30 seconds, plug in and fully, I repeat fully open and close the lid within 30 seconds. Have not seen it work, but it is the reset of some sort if you have the dc motor with the board on top of the motor.... Part can only be bought as one(motor and board on top of it together) There usually is a tech sheet with a wiring diagram in the back of the control panel.

Doesnt agitate or spin.

Mine is 1 1/2 years old and this worked for me

unplug from power for at least 30 seconds

turn the dial to spin but don't pull out

plug back in to power and open and shut completely so switch is engaged solidly 11 times in 15 seconds.

pull out knob to turn on

This should clear a error code.

hope it helps!

for model: WHDSR316G1WW General Electric Washing Machine

Unplug the machine at least 30 seconds
Turn the dial to the spin cycle, but do NOT pull it out yet.
Plug the machine back in and then lift and close the lid 11 times within 15 seconds and finally pull the knob to start the washer on spin cycle.

This should clear the error code.
