I have electronics background. I cannot find a tech manual for my Walmart SV2000 or Funai WV20V6. I am the 3rd person on the internet with this problem. VCR shuts down automatically. DVD plays without problem.
Where can I get a tech service manual? I live in Torrance, CA and Funai is 2 miles away.
Arakawastore. As usual you'll need to register a username and password to logon with if you want to actually download the service manual. But you can see everything you want to know about it by clicking on the hotlink below without having to register beforehand.
If you're hoping to find it online for free all you'll do is waste vast amounts of time. If I had it in my PDF service library I'd gladly have provided you with it, just as I've done on numerous occasions before here on Fixya.
Not once has a single Fixya member ever bothered to acknowledge my having done so as you can tell by my huge 3 point ranking. Perhaps this best accounts for why we all still have to pay for them.

Guest who posted on April 13, 2008. Your question is an excellent one! Unfortunately, I don't presently have the advantage of an SV2000 WV20V6 to work with and confirm the following with absolute certainty.
On most combo units, once you carefully disconnect the VCR assembly's modular connector where it plugs in on the power-supply board, doing so nearly always restores the remainder of the unit back to fully operation condition.
It'd be most helpful to all fellow SV2000 combo owners experiencing this same problem, if one of you could please verify what the outcome is after performing the recommendation just given.
In closing, I'd like to thank whoever graciously rated my above solution! It was due to your much appreciated effort and gratitude I came back and added this follow-up comment.
Hopefully having the advantage of this additional insight will enable many more SV2000 combo owners fully regain use of the unit's DVD portion, until such time as the malfunctioning VCR portion can be repaired.

Before the unit would shut down no matter what I tried.
Since I opened the unit reseated the ribbons, removed the DVD unit, removed the circuit board and pushed the led Not forcing it (otherwise you will break it) under the vhs chassis with a knife.
Now the VHS would play and shut off. When I leave the VHS in the carriage, the DVD works.

Is there a way to disable the VCR side so i can just use the DVD recorder?

Usually answered in minutes!
vcr will not play
same problem & funai techs are no help
I have the same problem. Mine shuts down after 6 seconds no matter what I do. I have been searching for answers online and descovering there are quite a few people with the same problem.
I also have the FUNAI WV20V6 VCR/DVD unit and have no users manual. How can I go about getting one?
vcr won't play without shutting the system down. dvd section works fine.
Have the same problem, but have found a temporary work-around. In my unit if you put a recordable tape in before the power shuts off, then switch operation to the DVD side, I can, at least, record to DVD. Can't get the VCR side to work properly yet.
Mfg. suggests trying turning power off for at least an hour to see if it clears up the problem. I tape on DVD's a lot every day and haven't taken the time to power it down for that long... but I don't think that will fix it.
The problem is a led that is on the circuit board under the vhs carriage. The sensor is bad, when it senses the vhs it stays on with none, it cuts off. replace the led
I have the same problem. started with the vcr powering off after about 10 seconds. when powered back on tape would eject. started using the dvd only then it started doing the same thing. only had the unit 6 months when this started. walmart was no help and funai corp customer service is a cruel joke. seems a lot of people have this same problem with this unit. I think it may be time for a class action suit.
I have SV2000 ( WV20v6) and it does not power on now. I have bit electronics background and tried testing the power supply board and found no dc output at connecton where it plug to the main board. AC Volts goes up the the transformer side . Not sure transformer is bad or DC conversion is bad.
I tried calling funai and their local service shop and both don't give the power supply . They will service it but cost $60 + parts .
TRying to see if any service manual available or any one has info how to troubleshoot this . Or my be if some one is willing to sell their partially working unit .
