I have a nuvi 200 that wont run when it is hooked up to a power supply

My nuvi 200 works great but the rechargeable battery only lasts an average of 5 hours. When I go to plug it in with the car charger and continue to navigate, it holds me on the charge screen and I am unable to navigate anymore. I have the same problem if I try to use it when it is plugged directly into the wall socket in my home, the charging screen comes up and I cannot get the unti to acquire sattelites or otherwise work until I unplug it, and then its fine?

I am using the same car charger that came with the unit and it was allowing me to navigate AND charge. Now I can only charge because the unit thinks it is plugged into a computer and therefore won't charge....

    Similar problem with 200W.

Now sorted. That's rather clever. Worked for me, in that it allows you to charge in the car using a regular non-Garmin usb charger!

Thanks dodge03. Your solution works nicely, but I think you'd agree that it is a pain in the neck to have to boot the numi this way. Have you found any car chargers that will work with a USB A to USB B cable without having to enter the test mode? One would think that someone (Garmin doesn't seem to) would make a cigarette-lighter style plug having USB A outputs that would mimic Garmin's cigarette plug style charger.

SOURCE: I have a nuvi 200 that wont run when it is hooked up to a power supply

The Nuvi 200 only has a 5 hour battery. Once charged, it can be removed from the charger, but the battery will only last 5 hours. Can you plug it into the car charger and navigate while charging BEFORE the battery dies? If so, and you don't have to remove the charger, you can leave the unit plugged in while you navigate without damage to the unit.

Wont power up

Hello,

The nuvi 200W is an older unit and it may be possible that the battery has run it's life out.
The average life span of a GPS battery is 2-3 years and possibly a bit longer depending on different factors such as climatic conditions, amount of usage, etc.

I have lost the ac adapter for my Xantrex Powerpack 200 Plus. Where can I get one for a reasonable price?

You need a 12 Volt AC/ 1 AMP (1000ma) charger. You can use one with a lower ma rating but it will take longer to charge. The factory unit will take 35 hours to fully recharge a totally discharged battery. If you use your car's cigarette lighter it will take 3 hours if you're charging and driving. Good Luck!

My sons Dell Vostro 1500 has a problem with the AC adaptor. It will run the laptop but wont charge the battery. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks,David

If it will run off the AC Adapter but won't charge the battery then odds are it is the battery that won't take the charge and not the AC Adapter's inability to charge anything.

Google "dell vostro1500 battery" and change to shopping. You will see many available knock off battery's starting at 20 dollars.

Although AC Adapters go out too. They last a lot longer than batteries do. Today's batteries just don't last. I would say average life span is a year to a year and a half.

My 2 yr old Garmin nuvi 200 was working fine...when I got home and turned the car off, it quit working and won't turn back on. I keep it plugged into the lighter, so it's not battery power.

No it's not the battery power: your nuvi has suffered the firmware equivalent of a stroke.

These are the steps to take to update your Nuvi 200:

Download and then run Garmin 200 WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

My Garvin nuvi 200 has just stopped working. I cannot turn it on. Is there an onboard battery? Is the power button locked?

yes it has a on board battery. Check to see if the plug on the back of the unit is loose. If its not thats good "kind of" the unit won't work without a charge even hooked up to power. The battery may need to be replaced. They run about 15$ on E-bay

Olympus e10 problem. Even with new batteries, could only take a couple of shots before the low battery icon came up & camera shut down. Would work fine using mains supply. Fixed by buying new battery...

You didn't say what type of batteries you are using. Best are CR-V3 lithium which should give 500 shots. 2300 mAh Ni-MH rechargeable batteries should give 200 shots. Worst are alkalines which Olympus do not recommend.
Have you checked the contacts in the bottom of the battery chamber for cleanliness?

Batteries

The Lithium batteries that are provided with the camera will supply approximately 200 images. The Ni-MH batteries will provide approximate 100 shots per charge. The B-10LPB Lithium Polymer battery will allow 500 - 700 shots per charge and can be recharged approximately 500 times. B-12LPB Lithium Polymer Battery will deliver twice the power allowing 1000- 1400 shots per charge and can be recharged approximately 500 times. The Alkaline batteries, although can be used, is not recommended due to very low battery life.
