Protection displayed and shuts off

When I press the power button Protection is displayed for a brief second and then the unit shuts down. Pressing power button does not do anything afterwards for a while. The fan works through that brief moment when Protection is displayed. protection displayed and shuts off. speakers are ok. purchased unit three days ago. wire connecton is ok. The stand by button blinks. i pressed the stop button for 5 seconds to stop the blinking, put the power back on, results are still the same, displaying protection and then the unit shuts down.

From what I've read, the only thing that could cause the system to diplay "protection" would be related to a DVD protecting itself from being copyed. But even without any DVDs playing or even inserted in the system I still get this message before it shuts itself off. So the only problem I can think of is that the system itself has some sort of defect which is causing to shut off when attached to multiple sytems at once.

I have a very similar problem as Kalisana's. The only difference is that I am able to play the HT-X30 for more than 20 minutes the first time. Powering the unit the second time allowed me to use the unit much less than 20 minutes and it gets lesser and lesser everytime. Mine was purchased March 28, 2008 and the problem initially occured 2 weeks ago or 4 months after my purchase. I tried everything written on the manual "Troubleshooting" page including holding the stop button for more than 5 seconds but nothing seems working. The fan checked alright with the unit's temperature well within limits. I've tried playing the unit on different modes but the results the same with the display of "Protection" followed immediately by power shut off. I've already referred this to local Samsung technicians bu to no avail. I purchased the unit together with a Samsung 32" LCD HDTV. Please help.

SOURCE: Help

Hi,

Take every single cable out of the unit, now power on the unit.

If the power protection still shows then there is an internal fault, usually a short or a component defect.

If it powers on ok, switch off and insert 1 speaker at a time and power on the unit until the protection mode comes on again, the last speaker you have put in has overloaded it for some reason, also as you are trying each speaker use the volume and bass controls to see if there is an internal overload.

Thats as much as I can offer you until you narrow the fault down to the unit or one of the speakers.

Cheers

Power problem

If the protect function works but is causing you problems, cancelling the protection function should help, and it will be possible to enter the self-diagnostic function mode. This should disable all functions of the protection mode, excluding the 'excess electrical current detection' feature.

While pressing the "Tone Control" and "Info" keys, try pressing the power key to turn on the power. Keep pressing those 2 keys for 3 seconds longer.

this should activate the Self Diagnostic function, with your Protection Mode disabled.

in this mode the 'sleep' section on the tv's fluorescent display flashes to indicate that the mode is properly activated.

just be very aware, this function is normally there as a safety feature and i cant guarantee that disabling it altogether won't cause other problems down the road. best of luck!

Protection displayed and shuts off

The protect message indicates that the output amp section has a problem. Normally this requires the replacement of the output transistors or the output amp pac. Expect the repair cost to be about $20-$60 for parts plus the local labor rate.

Protection displayed and shuts off

are all the speakers good?? discont all the speakers and see if all the lites come on. Then shut off and start to connect one at a time untill the unit shuts down and then you know you have a shorted speaker. If the same thing happens you probably have a power supply or an output stage falure and this should be serviced by someone who is quilified to work on stereos
