Internet searches suggested that the scanner was jammed, not 'locked', so I took it apart and moved the slider back and forth. It still said 'locked' while it was in pieces, but when I reassembled it, it worked normally and we were able to do some photocopying.
Remove the top lid, remove 2 screws from the back, then 3 screws from underneath at the front, remove the front panel with all the buttons and remove 2 more screws from under that. Prise the top off with a knife till it comes easily. The scanner slider is now at your grasp.

looks like the driver for the scanner is damaged, you need to download the new driver from samsung web side and install it on your computer then it will work.
On some models there is a transport latch to lock the scanner. Look under the scanner (where the copy comes out) and you will see a green slide. Look down thgrough the scanner glass and you will see a lock/unlock symbol.
Please ensure that the scanner is unlocked. The scanner lock is situated under the scanner bed towards the left. To unlock the scanner, please lift the scanner bed and push the red switch towards the back of the machine. Please try scanning again and let us know the results.

Hello, I think you have to call the service. They will change the hole Scanner. Because you can't unlock the scanner by any buttons or mechanical trick!
the lock is underneath the scanner where the printed paper gets delivered. when you reach in to get a printout you more than likley have pushed it into the lock position. Once you unlock that blue button by pulling towards you, switch off the printer and again switch on the printer.
Many scanners contain a scanning head lock to keep the scanning head from moving during shipping. This may still be still be in the lock position. All scanners are different but check the documentation on how to remove the head lock.
The scanner lock is actually a physical locking mechinism. It is not a control panel option.
the scanner is locked in a safe position before they ship the unit to prevent damage to the scanner.
I believe that this sliding latch can be located ( while looking straight at the unit ) on the under side of the scanner, above the area where the paper comes out, more to the left hand side.
locate the latch and slide it from the locked position to the unlock position.
Press stop/clear button to clear the error and try again.
On the underside of the scanner assembly is a LOCK, it has two positions LOCK and UNLOCK. The manufacturer sets it to lock so the scanner doesn't move during shipment. You should be able to slide this to the unlock position.
